so i'm watching TV, and my own music pops up in a commercial
a really wierd thing just happened.
I'm surfing through the 5 TV channels i have, and i graze one of those Esurance cartoon commercials. All the sudden i hear that the backing music is a remix i did (and was long ago paid for, and paid well, but optioned out of licensing) like 4 years ago of Soren Larue. The track is called "Innerchild - Adam Jay's Searching Remix".
You can check it out here: http://trustthedj.trackitdown.net/artist/107927.html
anyways, it was very surreal. I hunted down the commercial online, and you can see it here:
http://www.esurance.com/home/tv2.asp 5th one down "Erin hides out...."
its all legit and everything, but the original owner of the publishing never informed me, so it came as a total surprise. I see that he is promoting the TV spot on his myspace though.
wild!

I think that's really bad sportsmanship for this dude not to inform you.
What if you disapproved of the product/company? I've had a remix used for a TVC. I was happy to be contacted. Fortunately there was no dispute and the original artist was so pleased that I ended up getting a % from the licensing - even though I didn't need to get paid. That's the way it should work!

Had i disapproved, i would still not have any say on if the music made it to the final product or not. I took the option at the time for a larger advance in exchange for future licensing rights.corneliusw wrote:I think that's really bad sportsmanship for this dude not to inform you.

Yea, it would have sucked if i didn't approve, but i knew that situation would be possible when i signed the agreement and accepted payment.
Thankfully, i'm cool with this product though. And the SF based marketing company that makes those cartoons is pretty cool too.
I'm not mad, or upset. Just surprised.

sorry, Adam, as cool as that is, I can beat it.
A couple of years back I was surfing the 200 channels of crap I have (already one up eh?) and stumbled across some laughable softcore porn where a girl was squirting silicon bath sealant on herself !
yes, really ! If you have ever used the stuff you know how stupid that is - so that made me stop and watch ..then I realised .. that music .. it's me!
very strange.
So, my music was used as porn background music to a low price silicon sealant pervert video.
pwned I think

Surely no-one would do that with silicon. Maybe they filled the tube with skincream or something. Otherwise I reckon that lady would be stuck to everything she touched. I used some on my bath which is apparently guaranteed for 35 years - so do you think you could use it as a skin replacement?
Hmm.

Your not the copyright owner of a remix and unless your contract states otherwise your not entitled to any airplay royalties. Thats the rule in the uk so it might be different in the states?AdamJay wrote:a really wierd thing just happened.
