copying tracks
I think there must be a way to do this but haven't figured it out yet. Is there a way to copy an entire track (midi or audio) and paste it as a new track? For example, when I have a complicated chain of effects and settings that would be easier copied and pasted instead of dupilcating it by hand? Thanks for any help.
Thanks. That's my current way of working right now. But there are many times where I would like to just duplicate an entire rack of vsts and then vary the settings in a subtle way. Bouncing the track while I'm working is a little too final, and I typically like to be able to make modifications right up until the end.
It currently takes two steps - what you do is this:
1: Go into your midi track and make an empty midi clip there - drag it into the "Clips" part of the Library in the Live Browser. Now you can drag that clip back into an empty midi track, and all the vst settings should be included.
2: Copy the midi data separately.

by the way, we have a big tutorial on Live Clips in the Downloads section of our website:

I am surprised that Live doesn't have the ability to copy an entire track in Arrangement view - to save to a file that can be imported into a new song. I guess a workaround would be to consolidate into a giant MIDI clip that includes the data for the entire track - that would work, right? Or are you saying it still wouldn't include the MIDI data?
