can you recommend a good audio interface?
can you recommend a good audio interface?
Now that I finally have Reason and will be getting Live next week i'm in the market for an audio interface.
I have a Korg Kontrol 49 (running straight into the usb port now), a guitar, bass and mic. I'll be getting a uc-33e control surface at the same time I get Live so that'll need to be plugged in as well : )
I'm using a 20" iMac.
Thanks for any advice!

Are you going to want to record the mic, guitar and bass all at the same time, on spereate channels? like with a 4track? or will you be playing all the instaments seperatly one track at a time, again like with a 4 track. With each your needs are different. you interface for the second option could be almost anything. but if you are recording mulitipule musicians at once
I like the prosonus Firepod for macs but yeah you might want to go with the 828. The 828 has the ability to expand too an additional 8 ins and outs via ADAT (which the Firepod doesn't have). You might not need it now but if you are going to be recording bands you may need the mulitipule ins for micing a drum kit and getting each drum on a seperate channel.

Some people have problems with their firewire 410 by m-audio but i recently got one and it works fine i use it for recoridng live loops with bass and guitar gotta pick up a mic soon but i use it kind of like keller williams stuff
G4 iBook 1.25 gig RAM Tiger , Ableton Live 5, M-Audio Audiophiler Firewire, FCB1010
Nope, you can't go wrong with a Motu firewire unit! In addition to the 828 mk2, also look at the Motu Traveler. It's bus powered and has 2 more mic preamps than th3e 828. Other than that, they're essentially the same.
I did a 10 day tour in Jamaica with nothing but my trigger finger, powerbook, traveler, and an SM 58. It was not only rock solid, but made for very simple, quick set ups!

WHAT I CAN`T REALLY RECOMMEND:
if you have a pc <3GHz don´t get the Edirol FA101 since in my case it needs up to 12% of your CPU (in my case a Athlon XP2400).
Bad drivers I think, but edirol is not willing to work this problem out. instead they keep on telling me, that it is important which firewire interface you have and to switch of firewall (thats all bullshit and just a weak excuse for them not programming new drivers!!!)
besides that the overall quality is nice.
spacy
