My $0.02...
Pro's:
-OSX
-Powered firewire
-Dual Core
-back lit keyboard (I think)
-can run windows
Cons:
-Price!!! ouch. $2000 for the base model? Much overpriced, but that was probably expected.
-no 12" model or 17" 'yet'.
-only 2 usb ports
-no firewire 800
lets hear what you all think

I think it's priced pretty competitvely for once. DualCore high speed intel proc, etc... What are highend dual proc PC laptops going for these days?

now we are seeing the beginning of the merging of "PC" and "MAC" platforms....it is inevitable since people have been running early versions of this OSX flawlessly on PC hardware...since it is designed to run on Intel chips.....this trend will only continue as far as I see it...which isn't a bad thing....it is pretty interesting.......
BTW is this THE SAME INTEL CORE as the DUO CENTRINO??? I believe from what I've read that it is....my question is......
if MAC and PC's are using the same (compatable) hardware......????????
now what????

the price doesn't seem to bad. remember that the core stuff is brand new and as such is expensive. look at the Gateway duo, similar specs and it's $1750. You add the graphics card and HD and it's the same price. The question now is if the MacBook pricing will come down as chip prices fall. I doubt it.

1.83GHz "Intel Core Duo" processor with 2MB shared L2 Cache
667MHz frontside bus
1GB (single SO-DIMM) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300)
100GB 5400rpm Serial ATA hard drive
Slot-load SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB GDDR3 memory
seems like the answer is yes.....so the new PC notebooks and thes MACs are the same speed, same hardware, except the PC's go up to 2.13 GHz and many with faster 7200 RPM Hard Drive....why can't I just buy one of those and buy MAC OSX and run it on a DUO CORE PC????????

there may be a hidden symbolic meaning to the name that we aren't seeing yet.......think about it...it's like a convergence of two point or cores into one....
reflect on this for a moment....

Good point - it seems there's still alot of PC users in the world and they sort of determine what they'll pay for so the manufacturers will follow suite - prices will fall, yesparaclude wrote:The question now is if the MacBook pricing will come down as chip prices fall. I doubt it.
Apple has it's own niche following of customers and they determine what their customers will pay - there's only one apple so it's either our way or the highway
there's a million gateways, compaqs etc - hell you could build your own pc
So, just answering that question makes me want to stay out of the loop you get stuck in with Apple - great computers, awesome computers

Actually 20%... still good though. but you wont see that on the mac version until Live is a universal binary. C'mon Abes! Step up!markaugust wrote:I saw the result of that dell 9400 with adam's live 5 performance test; the dualcore definetely does something with live 5 though;
