Troubles having L11 & L12 Suites on same computer
Troubles having L11 & L12 Suites on same computer
Hello there,
I'm running L11 Suite for quite a while. I checked the L12 in demo mode and some improvements push me to buy the upgrade L12 Suite.
As mentioned in the Knowledge DB, "you cans run different major or minor version of Live on the same computer". Fair enough!
But after installing L12 Suite and updating all the packs that come with, NONE of them were usable back in L11 suite. Even the common packs that come with the 2 versions.
So having 2 différent major versions on the same computer is so "easy" to do. Different minor version is OK as they share the AUZ I suppose.
So do you have any idea on how to have L11 Suite & L12 Suite running in peace together? I still want to use L11 for some specific purposes that disappear in L12.
Thank for your lights!!

Works fine here, maybe best to reinstall Live 11 (latest version)

Same here, many packs cannot be opened in L11 since updated in L12.
Mac Pro 2019 running Monterey. Besides that, everything is fine in both L11 and L12.

Re: Troubles having L11 & L12 Suites on same computer
I gave a try....
- First only L11 (no Pack dowloaded after the install). Same issue.. All common Packs in L11 & L12 are not usable in L11 if installed "by" L12.
- Then I DL'd all Suite Packs from L11. Now Commons Pack do not work in L12.
I found a work around: Pathetic!!
- Both Major version needs to have their specific (including the common ones) path containing path!! So I simply double the space used for the pack!!. The main reason of this is Major version use different Auth Key affection the authorisation in another major version!!
- This does not happen if you run several minor version of Live as they need the same auth Key.
I wish that Ableton could aggregate Licences associated with Packs to ALL Major versions owned by the same individual...
I feel very disappointed to waste Gigs of duplicated files only for a Licence Key
Re: Troubles having L11 & L12 Suites on same computer
I think we need to end up this post.
I did dig a little bit in detailed on what happened.
- Remove all my Packs from L11 and L12.
- Set up 2 Major Version specific folder for Pack
- Gave a try in downloading one Pack (Sticker and Step) from BOTH version of live.
- Took a quick look on the content of these two Packs
Properties.cfg file in Ableton Folder Info of “Skitter and Step” Pack DL’d from L11:
FolderConfigData
{
String PackUniqueID = "www.ableton.com/255";
String PackDisplayName = "Skitter and Step";
String PackVendor = "Ableton";
Int PackMinorVersion = 4;
Int PackMajorVersion = 1;
Int PackRevision = 58704;
Int ProductId = 32809;
Int MinSoftwareProductId = 3;
}
Properties.cfg file in Ableton Folder Info of “Skitter and Step” Pack DL’d from L12:
FolderConfigData
{
String PackUniqueID = "www.ableton.com/255";
String PackDisplayName = "Skitter and Step";
String PackVendor = "Ableton";
Int PackMinorVersion = 4;
Int PackMajorVersion = 1;
Int PackRevision = 59745;
Int ProductId = 32809;
Int MinSoftwareProductId = 3;
}
And if I do a file comparison between two identical Drum Kit, one from L11 install and the same from L12 install, there are totally different.
Therefore, you have to install ALL Packs owned in BOTH major versions if you really want to use them if both major versions.
Such a waste of HD Space…….
If anyone around found a work around.... But I clearly doubt as it seems to be related to the copy protection & authorisation system used.
