Sending output to Push 3 standalone ADAT

Post by mslinn » Tue Dec 12, 2023 6:15 pm

I connected 2 Toslink cables between my RME UFX III ADAT2 connectors and my new Push 3 Standalone. When I play a set on the Push, the UFX does not show any signal on ADAT from the Push. Is there something I need to configure on the Push to send output to ADAT?

Yes you need to set the main outputs in your Push project to go to output channels 9 & 10.

To avoid pops and clicks you also need to decide whether the Push or the audio interface will be providing the clock, and change settings in the audio interface or the Push to follow the ADAT clock from the other device.

Thanks for the information.

It would be better if Push labeled outputs 9&10 as ADAT 1&2. Similarly for the other ADAT channels.

I am able to use Asio4All to combine two Asio Soundcards, I am able to combine Push3 with my Focusrite Clarett 4Pre. So i have 14 Audio Inputs
(Clarett 8 Analog 2 Digital) and Push ( 4 Analog) and I have 16 Outputs, Clarett (6 Analog, 2 Digital) and Push (4 Analog and 4 CV Out) - This is a dream Setup with Low Latency (44100 128 3.6ms i/o) and works for me. I hace synced them with ADAT
However it would be nice if Ableton Enables this feature in the Push3 ASIO Driver, since most Push3 Users already have a nice Audio Interface like Focurite, RME, UAD or Arturia. This would enhance their Audio Interface with optional Inputs from The Push3 and offer them the possibility to use the CV outs with their Audiointerface. My Focurite has no DC Outputs, so it can't handle CV out, thats why I am using now Asio 4 All to combine the 4 CV from Push. A cool addition is that i have 4 more Analog Inputs from Push3 to expand my HW Synths in Stereo.
Maybe Ableton could offer something better than this freeware solution.
A lot of users are searching for ADAT Devices to enhance Push3 but it would be much better if we could use our current Interface and enhance it with Push 3 Audio Interface.

I have two RME audio interfaces: a UCX II and a UFX III. Both use RME's MADIFace ASIO driver. This driver connects and mixes audio inputs and outputs.

Ableton Live uses an Ableton ASIO driver to communicate with Push 3. I think it would be better if Ableton had implemented the channel between Live and Push as a private, local driver that merely connects Ableton software with Ableton hardware. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The Ableton ASIO driver precludes the use of the RME ASIO driver within Ableton.

For recording purposes, the current situation is totally fine. Simply render to audio files and import them into Pro Tools, DaVinci Resolve, or whatever audio/video software you are using.

For live performance, such as streaming to YouTube and Facebook, etc., I can think of 2 options:

1) Because the Ableton master output appears to the RME ASIO driver as a software source, it can be mixed and routed by RME TotalMix just like any other audio source. You might want to use a virtual audio cable like https://vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm

2) Use a dedicated laptop to run Ableton and interact with Push 3, and to plug the output into the main computer, running Pro Tools, OBS Studio, etc.
