Looper discussion

Post by Surreal » Fri Jan 16, 2009 3:03 am

so. Looper is hot. it looks to be the answer to many people's requests (mine included)

feel free to add more questions or comments.

my question is; does looper make clips in the track as it goes? (that is what i would like)

how can i access the different loops i have recorded?

I don't have all the answers as I haven't played with it, but they described it as a sound on sound looper. the idea there would be that it records new sounds over top of the old ones. so I'm guessing here that a) no it doesn't record to clips at all, and b) you can't access individual recordings when you record multiple times over top of each other.

now thats mostly guessing based on a general understanding of sound on sound looping. I certainly could be wrong.

Well, from what is stated by Ableton:
Simple loop management: drag and drop a loop from Looper into a clip slot to make a clip; drag a clip back again to reload it into Looper
Not sure how that works, exactly - I wonder what indicates a 'loop'? One of the rounded-corner panels that dominate the plugin?

Looks like a pretty funky tool.

I'm hoping to configure the Looper and different pad banks with the drum rack, so I can just keep switching banks and layering that way, not to sure if it's feasible but that's kinda what I'm thinking.

You should be able to rack Loopers, why not

The Looper reads the tempo of the first lopp.
But it has an internal tempo. Will the Looper also change the global tempo?

Yes it can read the first loop tempo to global or you can slave it to global

Thanks indeed. The looper's 'first loop sync' function for me is by far the most important feature of Live 8.
my question is; does looper make clips in the track as it goes? (that is what i would like)

how can i access the different loops i have recorded?
Since it's sound on sound recording one looper will probably have one Ram buffer that it adds audio to with each pass. If you want multiple loops you'll need multiple loopers. I'm sure there'll also be the possibility to get a looper's output into a clip without having to use the mouse.

It looks like those colored squares are layers and you can drag each layer out to clip slots..?

It isn't in there at the moment, I know that much. Also, I can't quite see the use?
If you want something you can stop and then start again later you can simply stack a bunch of loopers in a rack.
