Live freezing ASIO freezing - solved

Post by Hoitabuam » Sat May 02, 2009 4:04 pm

An interesting problem occurred: Live 7(14) with ASIO (ASIO4ALL, Manufacturers ASIO - Terratec FW MIC8 ASIO). After Minutes or hours audio suddenly stops, Live gets slow as hell after ending live also other apps can't play through the device.
Restart Live does not help, takes forever. Restart the computer helps for a while. Tried all ASIO drivers, changed the Display driver (GEFORCE 8600M, i know crap...).

New day, same problem. Interesting solution: Preferences - Audio - IN/OUT Sample Rate - change to whatever and change back or leave changed.

Unfreezes live, unfreezes ASIO, takes a few seconds.

Is it live or asio ?

RAM? Pagefile settings?

It sounds more like insufficient RAM and/or pagefile to me...

No probs with other apps that use ASIO. The old SF6 runs for hours with asio.
Live's running on a XP x64 machine w 4gb ram. Ok, latency is optimized to 3,6 ms (192 Samples).
Guess an overflow in the ASIO input buffer. Changing the sample rate clears the buffer.
Question is still what causes the overflow and why live's not able to clean up the buffer on startup.

Not that logical but the problem is solved:
As mentioned, live's running on a notebook with nvidia gforce 8600m gs. I had the latest driver from nvidia installed. I removed the driver, switched back to standard VGA and installed the oldest driver i could find for this graphics adapter from http://laptopvideo2go.com/ - no physics aso.
Works like a charm now for hours without freezing or dropouts. Strange but true...
