I upgraded(when it first came out). At this point you might want to wait. Unless you just have doh to burn.

He's right, Live has been upgraded every 12-15 months for a while now, and we're about 8 months into Live 7 I think?

Or you can upgrade to L7 a month or so before they change to Live 8 and get a free update to Live 8.

Which is good as you don't pay 2 upgrade charges, but knowing the all important grace date is vital to this scheme (don't worry, it will be hyped up in all the media as well as on this website).

12 months is the very back end of November, so you still have pretty much 4 months if they release something this year.

The stuff they added in L7 was vital for me, so I could never go back to L6 now. That is not the situation for everyone though, so think hard and be patient and jump in when the time is right.

There was too much added not to have made the upgrade imo...

Apart from being a bit 'glichy' at first, I would say that the extra features in 7 were well worth it!

Live ROCKS and from where I'm stood, just gets better!

upgrade to Live 7

got a serious crash the second time I opened it

asked my money back from Ableton and got it

don't know what's next

still doesn't feel good

Live is also turning into an avarage DAW

I was expecting far more focus on audio but it's not

but I'll keep an eye on it

Live is still cool and useful for my work

Finally came to my senses, after wasting time and nerves for 1,5 years and nstalled ver.5 .
No more right away upgrades for me. First must see serious features, like grouping or crossfades then read this forum and be sure I am not paying betatester.
It is already 2 months since I went back to 5 Missing features ? Sure but there are alternative ways and applications while I use Live for what it does best- fast workflow.
P.S. I hope the genius who invented the (mis)management system got fired or reassigend to making coffee and xeroxes..

Upgraded the first week and after 15 days I took the Boxed Suite Upgrade and Ableton was so correct that asked me to pay the difference between the two. Never looked back, except for the fact that I have added Zebra2 to the setup for more complex pads and evolving stuff that Analog could not provide out of the box.

Live is like a dream. Obviously it can't please everybody. I don't think its an average DAW... It could use some better audio that is for sure. I'm getting version 8 str8 away though. 7 has been top notch. 2 weeks of bugs in the very beginning, but all was good since 7.0.2 or something...

Live 6.10 has a timechange bug. I can live with it. And when you overdrive the effects, serious bad things will happen. I can live with that too.

I heard you saying that a couple of times..

you literally mean it crashed once and returned it?

i think L7 is a serious improvement from L6 in terms of functionality.

Drum racks alone were worth the upgrade for me.

What do you mean by a timechange bug?

I have stayed on version 6 and may upgrade to 8 if it appeals to me. Version 6 does what I want. I tried the 7 demo but I found the extra instruments too bloated and not as intuitive to use as the original AAS instruments that I already own.

I would like to see more sophisticated time stretching capabilities. From what I understand, Ableton's time stretch is not as sophisticated as other products. I read that REAPER has a better time stretch engine.

At this point in time, for me at least, I don't like to stray too far away from the original tempo. No more than 10 bpm either way. Otherwise there are some weird artefacts that you can hear.
