Anyone know of a good free Wavelab type program?

Post by Mike Goodwin » Sun Jun 15, 2008 3:37 am

I dont need any included plugins. Just something that will let me load in VST's in a rack and drop in track markers. With next to free programs like reaper out there for full DAW's I just thought I would shoot this out there to see if anyone knows of anything.

Thanks for any tips.

Sorry, but there is nothing else like Wavelab. It's simply unparalleled. You can pick up a copy of Essential on the cheap. It retails for $99 but I got mine for $69 on sale. If all you need it for is as a host for your mastering VSTs then it's more than adequate.

Please dont take this the wrong way, as im just curious, but what can you do with Wavelab that you can not do with another audio editor? Does it come with good plugins or something?

Does Wavelab Essential require a dongle like the full version of Wavelab 6 does? I hope not.

thanks folks. Seems that there is only wavelab. So lame as it costs a fair bit of cash. I would go with wavelab essentials but it is lacks resolution for mastering.

huh? 32 bit/96 KHz is not enough? What Wavelab offers that the others don't is the workflow and the way that it presents your plugins. Soundforge is clunky by comparison. Audacity is a joke by comparison. The only limitations to Essential is some of the metering tools are absent(e.g.- bit meter) some plugins missing and no support for surround. I use mostly 3rd party plugs anyway. And no, there is no dongle Arnie.Which btw, is why I prefer it to the full version for my usage anyway. Here's a link to compare the 3 versions.

I don't see why Audacity and Wavosaur won't help you. You can use all sorts of free vsts such as spectrum analysers as well for monitoring your signal.
