Price deal for Noatikl generative software

Post by Liam » Fri Jun 06, 2008 10:52 pm

Over at Intermorphic they are doing a Summer deal for all versions of Noatikl.

I know many Live gurus could do much of what it does (maybe not) but this software (and vsti) does do a great job of opening up ideas.

Its $119 for both vsti and standalone version. Windows or Mac (not both).

Try the demo and see what it can do with Live.

Are you using this software??
I've been kinda sorta interested for a while but don't want to join yet another forum just ask a bunch of questions..

If you are using it what are the advantages of using the plugin over using the standalone other than recall??
How are you using it with live??
Is it possible to set notikl up with live so that it can trigger scenes??

I've down loaded the demo so i'll probably be able to answer these questions on my own soon enough, but it would be cool to get some out side feed back.

Cheers....

I'm using the program as I bought it today.

I had some files I tried with my Korg M3 when I had the demo version.

Just 16 part midi stuff.

Some interesting results.

The program can record a midi file from your efforts. That could be exported. Not sure if that's available with the vst plugin - might just be for the standalone. That would make sense.

I use mainly the vst version with Live.

It has a scripting feature too though I doubt I have the patience to learn how to use that fully.

Not sure it can trigger scenes but there are probably other ways to achieve that. Tried a forum search for that trick?

As the price is now much more reasonable I think its worth exploring the program. It offers great potential for tinkering.

Noatikl is probably more versatile, but for immidiate hands-on results in a wink I recommend:

OSX is useless to me as I do not own a Mac and doubt I ever will.

Question for Liam & Homebelly:

I've been interested in this software for a while now.

Have either of you determined what the advantages of using either the plugin or the the standalone are? Which would you recommend using & why?

Thanks

I have barely used this software, yet.

Right now I'm trying to fathom the VG99 as well as the Korg M3.

However, I really think that its best used within Live as a plugin but you can do a great deal with the standalone.

I don't think there is a best way.

You can create straight patterns with it (like with some drums) as well as ever changing patterns.

When you delve into the various options you see how powerful the whole concept is.

I'm having a quick look at it now but can't see how to assign midi ports etc

Reading the manual but still can't see the info I need...Yes, I see it now. Click on the Kit icon down the bottom of the screen then click on the name of the slot and load your own wave file (sample)

His site does have a lot of other interesting software for free too.

Config dialogue is two icons to the right of the 'Kits' - select your Midi in and choose controllers for various parameters including program change.

Note I'm not suggesting that this is in any way a replacement, or better than, Noatikl. It's an interesting experiment still in development - but, along with cellular automation, allows for some quick & dirty mad re-sequencing & can export both MIDI and audio for use in other projects. Other 'noizeboxes' you might find interesting:

That's cool to learn about that here. As an old time Koan user I was intrigued by it. But I let the demo expire as I was not in the position to buy at the time.

Now with these discounts I am interested again.

Some notes I took earlier this year when I tried the demo are here:

http://csound.wordpress.com/2008/02/14/ ... y-noatikl/
Live 9.1 <> occasionally Reason 4.0.1 <> Reaper.latest! <> Windows 7 on a bespoke Intel Q6600 <> ASUS P5E <> 8GB RAM, M-Audio Delta 2496 and that's it.
