monome vs lemur

Post by deepfunktribal » Fri Feb 08, 2008 5:26 am

is it possible to use the lemur for doing the same functions as the monome (step sequencing ecc.) in combination with live 7 ?

Well, you can just make a lemur app that emulates a monome. So, then you'd be able to use all of the monome apps with your Lemur. There's a 40h version for the lemur floating around somewhere. There's also a few Lemur step sequencers out there... and some of those wacky Reaktor Ensembles have been Lemurized...You can basically make whatever you want with that darn thing.

Oh yeah, the Monome is cool to if you want to get that old fashioned tactile stimulation going. Great thing about the Monome is all of the nice apps. It seems All are made with the idea of mouseless manipulation...And theres Molar...Molar Is something special...

ok

but what are this stepsequenzers for ? just for creating drum kits ? or even creating full tracks ? but what is even more interesting: how to use this stepsequenzers with live ? what, and how do/should they control exactly in live ?

They can be for whatever you want. A Sequencer sends out MIDI/OSC messages at Timed intervals. So you can apply it to anything that accepts MIDI or OSC - Drums, Bass, pads, Video, Visuals... Go to youtube or vimeo and type in "Lemur sequence" and "Monome" . They say a picture is worth a thousand words so i a video is 29 pictures per second....Just kidding, youll def get a better idea by watching some videos.

In theory - everything the Monome can do, could be done on a Lemur. Not the other way around, though. That said - being tactile is important to a lot of us. That's one point for the Monome.

From a programmer's POV there are tiny things that set them apart in how they handle the button/light arrays. The Lemur's solution requires a lot of data to be sent with every key press. We're hoping for a new way of dealing with this in the (hopefully) coming Lemur update.
