How long have you been addicted?
A mate of mine showed me v.4 when it had just came out, i took one look at it and said wtf are all these little boxes for???..shut it down and didn't bother with it again for 4 months. Started it up one day played around with it for a few hours and then the light bulb went on in my head, and it has never gone out

Same exact experience here. 3 was alot fun to play with but 4 was such a quantum leap that I've never looked back since.Lo-Fi Massahkah wrote:Got version 3 lite with some hardware. Upgraded when 4 came out. Sweet deal. Midi was a deal breaker for me. When Live first came out I was totally uninterested and not impressed. Stretching loops? That was NOT what I was about.

Version 3, in time for a $50 upgrade to v4. Definitly 4 sold me on the idea of making music in Live, instead of just using it for experimenting.
Blah, I hope I can hold off on updating soon, though the last couple have been relatively cheap as the resale value on laptops is pretty good.
That is great to me though, in many way I'm jealous of your situation there. In the last five years I've gone through quite a few, powerbook 667mz, to 800mhz model, (literally almost twice as fast, CPU speed isn't everything) to a used powerbook 1.5ghz, to a used Macbook Pro 2.16, to a new in box off craiglist macbook pro 2.4....... >mike holiday wrote:this computer doesn't cut it any more.. but it did get a cpu update a couple years ago
went from a 800 G4 to a dual 1.8 G4

Same! I used it around v4 or 5 and had NO clue what I was doing. "Where are all the samples/synth?" (I was a heavy Reason user)Cyberstar wrote:A mate of mine showed me v.4 when it had just came out, i took one look at it and said wtf are all these little boxes for???..shut it down and didn't bother with it again for 4 months. Fast forward to early 2007 I went looking for an OS X DAW with Rewire, VST and AU support...hmm let's give this Live thing a try. After one Youtube video I was hooked!
Got started with Live on version 1.
I would make a track in cubase 5 VST 32, using hardware and reason and VSTs. Then, I would perform by looping sections in Cubase and muting / unmuting group channels.
A guy working at a music store saw one of my shows, and told me that this Ableton thing was what I needed. So, I took his advice and bought it.
I then spent about three months exporting audio loops of my songs, recording loops from my hardware, etc. The pisser was that I exported 24 bit 44.1 KHz, but Live didn't accept 24 bit until v 1.5. So, I had to go and dither down all those samples, and about a month after I finished, they released v 1.5!!!
poop.
Regardless, it was absolutely the best tech / music purchase of my life.
