How to load a project featuring an uninstalled VST?

Post by mbenigni » Fri Dec 21, 2007 3:30 pm

Hi all,

I'm trying to open an old Live 6 project into Live 7. It had an instance or two of Guitar Rig 2, but I have since uninstalled Guitar Rig 2 and installed Guitar Rig 3. On opening the project, Live 7 flashes some sort of error about being unable to open Guitar Rig 2, or its being incompatible or something, and then closes down completely.

Before I freak out... is there any way to get Live 7 to load a project but ignore any absent plugins?

Thanks!

i don t have Live 7, but in previous versions, Live could open Sets with missing vsts, i think they were greyed and there was something like disabled printed on them.

Perhaps, your Guitar Rig dll is still on your drive after uninstalling? So Live trys to load it and thinks it s there but can t complete this?

I've shared sets in Live 7 with multiple missing plugins and all it did was cause a warning popup for each missing plugin on load up and then continued to open without the plugins.

Sounds like your problem might be Guitar Rig specific which wouldn't surprise me since it is NI.

Perhaps try rebuilding the set by dragging in each track of it from the browser. If the track with Guitar Rig still will not load, try dragging in just the audio/midi clips.

Wow, you hit the nail on the head. I forgot I had copied this manually at some point in order to better organize my Live VST folder. Deleting cleared the problem right up.

Thanks a million!
