Will more ram or streaming off a faster hd really make that big of a difference??
I already did a fresh install and killed dashboard. What about keeping x amount of free space on your hd? I'm down to like 10 gigs.

Doesn't XP run MUCH better when you have at least 10% (might be wrong...) HD space free?

Is it possible to run this test with a lower latency setting? Because in Live 7, when I use low latency, I cant do anything. Even when my project only has 1 simple Simpler/Sampler/Impulse (& no effects)
Thank u! (Ableton 6 runs smooth with a lower latency setting than 512 samples..)

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter : 50% (very bouncy untill stablizing)
2) Laptop/Desktop? Make/Model? Macbook Pro
3) Operating System? XP pro
4) Ableton Live version? 7.1
5) CPU Make, Model, and Speed? 2.3ghz
6) Amount of Ram? 2 gig
7) Soundcard (and driver version if you know it)? Internal
8) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know)? 5400
9) Number of playback tracks? 8

I'm confused. As was mentioned, obviously this is not scientific, so the results will vary. But all in all, most MacBook Pros score way worse on average under OS X than when running aloft XP, or compared to PC computers of similar specs running Windows (XP or Vista) with this test. I even noticed that playback was smoother in XP as opposed to in OS X where I heard glitches.

So, certain questions remained unanswered. I'd like to see more scores by some peop's using coolbook (maxing the processor speed/avoiding 'stepping') in OS X on their macbook pros/macbooks.

Also, I wonder if there are issues regarding how Live communicates information to OS X in this regard. Or perhaps OS X (what I think is more likely) tries to step the processor too often causing this bad performance.

It would also be nice to see Ableton come out with an official test. But I'm also still curious if the original poster of this test is using coolbook? Because he got the only Macbook Pro score under 60% in OS X.

Either way. We'll get to the bottom of this.

Yes....earsmack the first link is to a post of mine...

as you can see from my new test results something very strange is going on with my MBP. Did a wipe and re-install of the OS and now have live's cpu meter down to a staggering 134%......trying to find someone to do a comp. test with Reason 4 to try and find out more. tech tool pro and disk utility show no disk or hardware problems and i have tried everything the abe's can think of to remedy it to no avail. so applecare here i come next week..........

Well Mammalex,

Obviously your scores are truely abnormal. Even though macbook's are scoring on average worse than PCs in this test (at least in OS X) your computer is showing some bizarre results.

Suggestion and a question. You could try installing XP and see what performance you get there. But I know that's a pain. Sorry if you already answered this, but what does Ableton sound like with this test? Do you hear white noise or static or smooth playback?

I actually don't even hear a steady playback of the sound in Live 6/7 under OS X.

Interestingly, I found this from a link found in your google search:

"Errata are design defects or errors. Errata may cause the Intel® Core™ Duo processor and the Intel® Core™ Solo processor on a 65 nm process to deviate from published specifications. Hardware and software designed to be used with any given stepping must assume that all errata documented for that stepping are present on all devices.” – Intel

Hey guys,

Just like the previous Performance Test threads, can we keep the discussions out and in a seperate thread? Try and keep this for just scores, this isn't supposed to be the place to discuss random troubleshooting.

Thanks a lot!

Using COOLBOOK 2.6 (default settings but with a "High Throttle"). Still produces noticeable glitches. Anyone else hearing audible glitches with this test? Tarekith?
