Nope. While the original proof of concept for Massive was done in Reaktor (as is the case with most NI instruments), that's the only real connection. To do even a half-assed job of Massive in Reaktor would take at least three times the CPU that Massive uses. And, Absynth's never had any conceptual work done inside Reaktor as far as I know.

Back to the original question; Reaktor without a doubt. It's just so flexible.

Fascinating.
This discussion had me torn as well, so I checked the current pricing.

Reaktor - $399
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Reaktor/

Komplete Synths (MASSIVE, ABSYNTH 4, FM8, and PRO-53) - $399
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/KompSynthBun

Is Reaktor competitive to the Komplete Synth package?

Now THAT is a sweet bundle, for sure! They could even keep pro-53 and it would still be a killer deal. SOLD!

In the NI forum some people state that they miss a synth modul in Reaktor that is capable of producing the massive sound that Massive offers. So even when Reaktor seems to offer virtually "everything" practically it can only offer what you can make out of it's components.

Indeed. That's what I was thinking.
I mean, I nearly bought Massive and Absynth a few months ago for $100 more than that deal.
In terms of synth-types-for-the-buck, it's hard to imagine something that comes close to it.

If the local GC has it, I might pick it up on the way home. $100 each, for those, is incredible.
Maybe a Christmas thing?

I'm VERY likely there, today.

It really depends on what's going to work best for you. Sure, with Reaktor you can build whatever you want, and there are thousands of user-built instruments/FX... but that doesn't necessarily mean Reaktor is the best software for you.

Personally I've gotten MUCH more use out of Massive than Reaktor. For my workflow, I've found that having a zillion options doesn't equal more productivity. For me, productivity comes with really getting to know a powerful synth; building custom synths, or browsing through page after page of user-built doesn't equal productivity for me.

So really, it all depends on what you're looking for.
In my book :
Reaktor = endless options and customizability, open-ended format
Massive = powerful interface, excellent sound, easy to use

You said you want reese's and good stereo lead lines, then get massive. Hands down for the ease of use, beautiful gui, sonic goodness, massive kills all (other than virus ti).

One good trick also for wide stereo leads use abletons utiity plug.

I did a a/b test with carbon and massive and massive won imo. the highs are just much brighter and adding a little grit is very easy.

When it comes down to it ask yourself which is more productive/pleasing to look at and work. Also which one sounds better to you.

Massive ftw..

I've weeded my library down to about 700 things,, synths,FX and manglers.
In fact,, i just finished organizing it the other day.

Weeded down to 700!! Geez...

I've never spent enough time with my Reaktor. I've downloaded some things here and there. I still have no clue how to build something (don't think I ever will). But what is included and what I have downloaded are some very classy instruments and fx.

That being said, I think I am going to buy the Komplete Synths package. It is just too good to pass up. I'm about to sell my Voyager and rather than buying any more hardware synths, I may pop for the NI stuff and put some cash in savings, for once.

Yeah,,
But like i said,, i've been using Reaktor for about six years now, so it's not like i downloaded 700 .ens across a long weekend.

Buy the synth pack,, spend the money on a good converter and your golden. I love hard ware,, but i have no intention of ever going back,, well,, unless the new waldorf is every thing they promise it to be,, if not,, then i'm off the get an apogey,, Yum-Yum-Yum!!!

Thanks for all the great responses guys...

Would Reaktor be the better option if you wanted to do big evolving granular dirty soundscapes say in the vein of umm Trent Reznor and Ben Frost etc?

Still struggling to decide....

granular is Reaktor's middle name

as far as I know Massive is a wavetable synth that can do a little granularity on the side..

Reaktor has very powerful grain engines..
