v4.0 versus MPC 2000XL

Post by Guest » Fri Jul 09, 2004 12:21 pm

ive got Abelton Live3.0 + A MPC 2000 XL, im using the MPC to sequence hardware + VST'is using Steinberg VStack - my question is this

For those that have used V4.0 is it worth me selling my MPC and do all the midi sequencing on v4.0? To me the MPC is the easiest, quickest suqencer for live use, but should I upgrade to v4.0 and get shut of the MPC? I could get some nice outboard with the sale of the MPC

:D

good question, MPCs sound really cool live. So if you play live you might want to keep it for beats...

but, as far as sequencing goes Live4 is easier.

Don't sell your MPC - you can Midi Beat Clock out of Live and run your drum sequences on your 2000 parallel to your Live session -

However - the impulse drum module in version 4 is (in my opinion) way more versatile than the MPC drum sampler - I'm beta testing 4 and I have a MPC 1000 - I prefer the impulse

I'm still trying to find the right latency compensation to sync up my MPC 1000 drums to my Ableton loops (I don't spend all day, but I'm trying)

Don't do it - the MPC series is tyte!

Ditch the MPC 2k

Get an MPD16 (akai midi controler) or the Korg Micro Kontrol. I've used both. Both are great.

I have never used a MPC, but from what I've heard and read - from those that have - Live 3 can do more than an MPC, and V4 will do more than that.
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

MPC 4000's have a full Akai sampler, (I'm not sure if anyone uses it or not!) just grab Kontakt and you're Live setup will run rings around it!

thanks for the opinions. I think ill get v 4 anyway, then wait till ive played with it for a bit before I decide to sell the MPC or not. I bet the midi in v4 is good, but im just wondering if it will be as intuative in a live situation as the MPC - I suppose once youve set up midi triggers for the midi clips in live, you may as well have just used the MPC anyway, dunno.........

You can trigger the clips w/ Midi Velocity via the pads on the MPC

yeah I know - I mean, since you would be triggering midi in abelton from the MPC pads, you may as well just trigger inside the MPC machine (if you get me), wouldnt you just be replicating functions for no reason?

I dunno, like I say its all up in the air for me at the moment, I just wouldnt want to sell the MPC then regret it soon after.

I own the MPC2000XL and, before Live 4 came up, it was one of my main sequencing tools (I also use Logic and Cubase). Now, Live 4 does everything I need it to. All my MIDI hardware (synths, fxs, digital mixer) can be sequenced in a very flexible/easy way. The thought of selling the MPC did cross my mind but I'm still too attached to it. I guess I'll wait and see...

Of course, you can always use the MPC as a 4 part multitimbral drum sampler. Here's how: http://www.mpc2000xl.com/multi.htm

man... look that mpc baby in the eyes..
Look at her. you can't get rid of her.. for another gal?
Nahh.. Keep her around. Your going to need her one of these days..

Alot of people tell you 'live will work wonders, and run circles around
your hardware.. get with the new etc..'

They're right.
Live will kick it some with a solid rig.. But anyone using any MPC will
tell you, KEEP IT!!

I'm thinking of selling my MPC to go mobile with live. Does the MPD 16 make the grade? I mean does it feel like MPC, how does latency with ibook and MPD compare to just bashing the MPC by itself? I just love the feel of my MPC but it's getting old and crashy and I can't lug it around on my back. any thoughts?

supposedly the velocity on the mpd16 sucks. you pretty much need to use it @ 100% velocity and then edit later. i've heard this enough times to believe it... really sucks too.
