Apple to kill Pro Tools soon?
Although in the case of Apple, rumors always need to be taken with a grain of salt, former E-magic employees claim that Apple is working on a pro-tools killer. Apple's current production suite, Logic has always enjoyed a solid reputation, but merely as a mid-range professional solution, with Pro-tools being alone at the top.
However, recent statements by various insiders have revealed that there will be no updates to the application, which is still enjoying serious support today.According to the rumors, the new app, which will replace Logic altogether, will be launched under an entirely new name, featuring some of the familiar elements of Logic, but in turn will require Apple's new OS, slated for release later this year, which the software will take full advantage of. Other suggestians point into the direction of a specific touchscreen (!) interface, used to control the program, a rumour that has been resurfacing among Apple fanboys time and time again over the last few years.
Fact is that Apple has recently filed some patents regarding multi-touch interfacing, also in relation to their iPhone pre-launch showcase. There have also been rumors of an Apple branded soundcard, codenamed asteroid, but no one has seen any prototype to date. Fact is that the company will do anything to keep rumors from surfacing, which in the case of the iPhone even included the distribution of decoy prototypes, to mislead even the employees.

Re: Apple to kill Pro Tools soon?
Pro-tools is the most popular because it's easy to use and compatible with every computer; not because it's the "best".Shoma wrote:Although in the case of Apple, rumors always need to be taken with a grain of salt, former E-magic employees claim that Apple is working on a pro-tools killer. Logic is, by far, more powerful than Pro-tools and is definitely a high-range professional solution. Unfortunately, it has a steep learning curve and only works on Apple's. It's not easy for people to transfer sessions from one studio to the next, since not every engineer or producer knows Logic. That's why it isn't as popular.
I do hope to see a Logic successor, however, if it promises what these rumors have alluded to. I also hope it's easier to learn and use.

And what can you do in Live that you can´t in PT?
Just about everything !!!
PT has had a good long run but it´s a dinosaur that NEEDS to be put to death or Digi need to get off their butts and really develop their product much more and reduce the pricing. They have been comfy for far too long.
Question is, who is the gonna be the David to slay the PT goliath - for years, PT has continued to be the top studio choice based on the fact that it was the best (and pretty much only) app in the mid 90´s of it´s kind and now everyone has invested top $$$ in it, they are scared to let it go.
Nuendo, Sequoia, SAWstudio (in the 3k plus with post production features as well as audio/midi multitracking) and others offer far more features and use them with a top audio card and pres provide more for less.

And Apple to kill anything is debatable - Apple tried and failed to kill IBM and PC machines and still have a pathetic market share. Although they do have strong niche markets such as graphic design and music production the average joe home computer guy rarely goes for the fruit !!
The only thing that has kept them in business is the Ipod and now sales of their laptops and imacs has picked up slightly on the back of this but they´re not exactly pulling up trees...
Now I like Apple and their products but they are the number 1 generators of spiel and spin...which is why I can´t see them making a hardware based 10-15k music production studio module in the mould of ProTools HD TDM system.

apple wont kill pro tools unless they release a cross platform product, i know more pc users on pro tools than mac users.
pro tools is fine, it works in the big studio desks and it sounds great and has quality tools available for it.
if you're a singer songwriter you know your mbox and guitar recordings will be able to be copied to the studio immediatley.

Take the analogy of the last 2 US elections and all the bullshit going on in Washington DC. Spin and spiel. I hate Apple because they cater to the lemmings, form over function (that's my biased rant, no flame war, iTards.) Tell people what they want to hear but that has nothing to do with what you're actually doing.leedsquietman wrote:they are the number 1 generators of spiel and spin...which is why I can´t see them making a hardware based 10-15k music production studio module in the mould of ProTools HD TDM system.
So, look to apple to dominate the market and we'll all be running whatever ends up being the last version of Live ever released while the rest of the world is making idential iTrance beats at 128 bpm and loving it.
