Best Sampler for Live?
If you want big instrument libraries, lots of compatibility then I think Kontakt is the choice. It is very capable, bit complex to learn, but really an amazing tool.
I find the database annoying, and I do not use the big instrument libraries that much so IF Sampler gets improved with more than a global filter and few other features I may end up switching.
I do not like using Kontakt within the host that much. It is better set up as a standalone app. I wish it could sample.

The highlife sampler (VST) got some great features and is easy to use.
- supports akai S5000/6000 and Soundfont (thousands of sounds are free to download on the net)
- It got a VST freezer. Freeze your favourite sound programs to a CPU friendly highlife sampler program (still midi editable)
- Built in FX (Transient Designer, Phazer, ...)
check it out ...

Reasons to get Kontakt 2.
Much more flexible than Sampler, very nice effects.
You can run it as a VST within another program or as a VST.
A really good library of instruments.
It is more expensive, but you get a lot more.
Now, if you're wanting to use it for live use and modulate live within Live 6, I'd go for Sampler.
NI has a good tutorial DVD for Kontakt 2 for about $50.

[quote="dn83"]Hey everybody - Thanks for all the replies. What I'm looking for is a totally stable sampler plugin to use within Live that has very realistic instruments with lots of character (both traditional and synth sounds) and that also has handy features and the ability to tweak/manipulate/add effects.
For example, I want to have access to a really realistic piano, acoustic drum, or string sound when I need one, in addition to other sounds, and the ability to import and tweak/manipulate but most importantly stability.

did you have a look at YellowTools independence? It is great for mapping and editing your own stuff, comes with a 18GB library and reads YT libraries. There is also a ChickenSys Translator for it.
Personally I like it a lot - and I have HALion, Kontakt2 and exs .....
But Ableton sampler also imports lots of libraries - exs pretty great and Kontakt with some glitches. And I am sure that it will soon become one of the supported samplers for many open libraries.
