(OT) HELP AFTER UPGRADING...windows bugs...

Post by RobStrobe » Sat Dec 03, 2005 1:16 am

hey...i just upgraded to protools7 and always said, SERVICE PACK 2 (windows xp) will never touch any of my systems....so...NOW...i had to put it ON to my laptop ,to be able to grade up...NOW...all my system is slowed down...i would say...something about 20%...

QUESTION:

HOW DO I HANDLE THIS MOSTBULLSHIT SERVICE PACK???
or
HOW CAN I DISABLE ALL BUGS THIS STUPIDPACK added to my SYSTEM???
or
GOT ANYONE ANY IDEAS???

looking forward....

thx in advance

No, but very intersting post, I got SP2 with my Laptop and I'm not happy with it, thinking of sticking SP1 on it but dunno if it wil recognize the hardware properly. I don't think you can take all th bloat out (Other than disabling all th BS services you don't need of course).

Did you do all the tweaks yet?

thx for the link, i think most of those are already and have done before....and now again...

i think it shouldn´t be a problem for you to put SP1 on...XP recognizes the devices...but i can imagine windows won´t allow to put a smaller SP on....even i think you can´t uninstall SP2 if you lappy has been delivered with it!!!

have you maybe got a "naked XP version somewhere??

=)

SP2 is not that much of a problem just Windows in general installs lots of rubbish you will never need. I am on the extreme side of tweaking, my music partition has only 10 services on.
I recommend Nlite, tested it for few months on internet partition, now have 2 Nlite sets one for internet one for music. Both work perfect.
Nlite is so great because you dont have to deactivate anything, since it wont get installed in the first place., so no trash in registry. Takes less time to install, you can do your own XP with serial etc and then do unattended installs whenever you need.
Laptop manufacturers recovery discs are full of useless stuff.
Nlite or not, secure all the drivers and install regular XP clean, not recovery.
