Opening old project gives serious program error
I'm trying to open an old project from I guess Ableton 7 times and I get a serious program error. I should export the song for a trailer tomorrow so I'm in deep trouble atm. Any help? Screenshot below.
:edit: Software version Ableton Live 9.0.4 32-bit, also tried with Live8. System: Win7

Re: Opening old project gives serious program error
fwiw I've been getting numerous crashes myself running a mac and either 9.0.6 64 bit or 32 bit.
For some reason old ableton projects increasingly crash ableton (in my experience)
Sorry I can't be of more constructive help.
Opening a new project and dragging in tracks one by one to identify the troublesome track sometimes seems to work. At least you get most of the project back that way ?

Re: Opening old project gives serious program error
Hello and thanks for the answer... and yeah it's a really annoying situation that old projects break down so no worries about the non-constructiveness.
Thanks!
This sounds interesting, but how can I drag the tracks one by one if I cannot open the old project? I can try dragging in the whole old .als-file but it doesn't seem to work either. Could you elaborate a bit?GUY SMILEY wrote:Opening a new project and dragging in tracks one by one to identify the troublesome track sometimes seems to work. Re: Opening old project gives serious program error
So, I'm able to open the clip view side from the first 4 tracks. Structure is not there at all.
The error could be caused by a problematic plugin on channel 5. I think there should be a tool for editing .als files in a case like this. Removing one plugin could help in opening the rest of the project.

You can try disabling (temporarily) the vst plugin folder completely in preferences.borg nagar wrote:So, I'm able to open the clip view side from the first 4 tracks. Structure is not there at all.

That way the plugins for the project won;t get scanned when opening it (or indeed when dragging the track in from the browser to a new project)
These are all workarounds, but hopefully enables you to get a semblance of your project up and running

Re: Opening old project gives serious program error
Big thanks to Guy Smiley! Following your instructions, I managed to track down the problematic plugins and after installing older versions of them, I was able to recover the project.
