leslie cabinet
leslie cabinet
Does anyone know if their is a leslie cabinet audio effect available? I can't find one in my audio effects. Is there a way to simulate one?

Is not remotely similar to a Leslie. Not at all.Matt_Quinn wrote:AutoPan

Not at all. You can disagree, that's fine, but no need to be a dick about it. It's not like they are not in the same ballpark.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_speaker#History
"...create Doppler effect–based vibrato, tremolo and chorus effects."
https://www.ableton.com/en/manual/live- ... /#auto-pan
"Auto Pan offers LFO-driven manipulation of amplitude and panning for creating automatic panning, tremolo and amplitude modulation, and beat-synchronized chopping effects. "

Re: leslie cabinet
autopan has NOTHING to do with a leslie rotating speaker, it's way closer to a chorus/phaser than simple autopan
do you even know what a leslie cab is?
there is the hi horn that rotates in one direction creating a phasing/doppler effect
and a foam cover over the woofer rotating in the reverse direction creating a tremolo-esque sound in the low register
those 2 combined in the specially designed cabinet have a really unique sound that combines pitch shifting, phasing and panning (depending o how many and how positionned the microphones
in the soft world b4 still is the king
in the hardware, krg g4, h&k rotosphere, boss rt20 are pretty damn good

I am well aware, thank you. If you own Live 8, look at the Drawbar Organ presets. They have Rotary macros. What do the rotary macros control?

Re: leslie cabinet
auto-pan is a time domain effect, it does nothing in the frequency domain. IOW there's no pitch change, just amplitude change. tremolo is a time domain effect.
Leslies are a frequency domain effect, they 'bend' notes.
wah pedals are frequency domain. volume and tremolo pedals are time domain. see the trend?

Don't know if there is a satisfactory software Leslie emulation. However, the best hardware emulation would be the Neo Ventilator from Neo Instruments. It's pricey ($450-460USD). But it is a dead-on effect pedal. The only thing missing is the physical air movement from the rotating horn and low end rotor.

The 'Rotary' macro on these devices control an Auto Pan, not Chorus/Phaser. Again, I am in no way saying that this is a perfect substitute for a real Leslie or specifically designed Leslie emulation. But if you can't get something approaching a rotating speaker effect using a combo of AutoPan, Chorus, and EQs, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Re: leslie cabinet
I've had good results with the MDA Leslie, also Guitar rig's Rotator. If you have Max 4 Live, you might be able to get close by using two of Robert Henke's Doppler plugins, racked and split so that one does the upper mids and tops, the other Bass and low mids, then use Live's Dynamic tube plugin to add a bit of grit to it all. Alternatively, buy a real Leslie and mic it up, it works ok for Dave Gilmour, and he only lives on a barge these days, problems with cash apparently.
