Ableton 9
Ableton 9
Forum Live 9 haters, come aboard, cause, here's one more (lovin' it!):
Retro Synths — a $99 value — is now free for all Ableton Live 8 and Suite 8 users. It is also included with any upgrade to or new purchase of Ableton Live 8 or Suite 8 until October 31, 2011.
hmmm... either Live 9 is comin, or the Republicans make sense. Or neither. Nevermind.

For my own curiosity, how does this exactly mean that live 9 is coming?infiniteB wrote: hmmm... either Live 9 is comin, or the Republicans make sense. Or neither. Nevermind.

Re: Ableton 9
I'm a bit confused on the link between the two as well. How does giving away some free samples signify that they're releasing a new version of their software?
Re: Ableton 9
if live comes out right after oct 31st, those who bought live 8 during the free retro synth offer will have less to complain about.. "9 is out??? i just bought 8!" ...well at least i got free retro synths... makes sense i guess...

Not that I'm saying it's going to happen, but the logic is pretty straight forward. Don't see why you have trouble grasping it. Have you been kicked in the head repeatedly by an aggravated mule recently ?timothyallan wrote:How does giving away some free samples signify that they're releasing a new version of their software?
Anyway let me help you.
The 'free' samples are only free for a limited time. Which means nothing to existing licensees, but it's a very straight forward gimmick to entice [a] new customers, but more importantly any customers who might be on the fence, or waiting for the next revision - to buy within the designated time frame.
With Ableton & NI especially, nearly every new major release is precipitated by some such offer to either soften the blow as cabletone put it, and/or to ensure less people getting in on the grace period.

Re: Ableton 9
By your logic, the last 5 or 6 times THIS YEAR alone that has had some sort of freebee or reduced pricing indicate that live9 is the next thing out the gate...amiright?
WOW! Could you be a more condescending douchebag? Or were you just "kicked in the head" by a mule as you so eloquently put it?!

Re: Ableton 9
and like clockwork, after each of those marketing gimmicks and sales, someone was asking if 9 was around the corner.
Why ? you may ask.
Well it's like I said. That's how it usually goes. At any rate, Live 8 is a special case. It was a monumental fuck up that took 2.5 yrs to stabilise, and a warranted a formal & very public apology from the CEO.
Nevertheless, I guarantee you that not long before 9 drops, there will have been some such sale, offer or gimmick.
Oh, and regarding this promo:

Re: Ableton 9
I take the freebies as a way to push users onto the latest release of Live 8. this way they can gauge how well the latest bug fixes are going and quell the bugs being reported from older versions. they could just be helping their partners like Puremagnetik get more visibility.

Re: Ableton 9 People are right, Ableton I found out is far away
yes, people are right. Ableton has not been working on, nor do they have the funding to do Live 9 Despite their Max, Partner, Novation, Akai, Live 8, Suite, and other moves. They realize this, and are now contacting Ross Perot, Donald Trump, and Dr. Dre (source: Psy K-naw Skee underground music tech magazine) and the people at Cockos Reaper. So, good news, Live is not close, but will be here by 2014 by when Ableton will be able to have at least !00K cash in hand (or close). Given, they have build polymers for the new instruments, effects and engine, which will require a 500 million dollar factory by itself due to needing to create humonhous machines that create smaller machines that will design physical aparatus' that mimic MAx For Live in a real life setting (this, according to Bob Katz is the future of Audio Programming), but I think they at least have a shot. If not, I'm moving right over to Cubase.

Re: Ableton 9 People are right, Ableton I found out is far away
I don't understand the ? ... It is what it is (fortunately/unfortunately, depending how patient one is). I personally am just gonna put it out of my mind. I have seen "spy" photos (like that of cars) of similar factories to the one described. There's one in Brussels. Rumor has it Image Line, or Atari (their name has popped up again recently) owns it. We shall see...scutheotaku wrote:?infiniteB wrote:yes, people are right.
