VST limiter for Final Cut, easy for a "video guy"

Post by Jekblad » Tue Jan 12, 2010 6:08 pm

i got this guy who makes a ton of videos but they are never loud enough. Final Cut supports plugs i think so that seems like a solution.

izotope seems over the top, waves too expensive.

Apples "AUPeakLimiter" , should be in the audio units folder pre-installed and should work for basic limiting.

If he has final cut, he should have soundtrack pro... and that comes with most, if not all, of Logic's plugins... i think?

Unless my Soundtrack pro has the plugins because I actually have Logic.

FCP also has it's own limiter and range of audio tools in the browser, it's in effects-audio filters-final cut pro.

would he just turn the gain up as loud as it goes and use this to limit the peaks? Rather than using the limiter to push the sound (of course is a no-no any way)

The main tools I use for work are FCP and Logic, and tbh I never use FCP for any audio work at all, it's audio editing capabilities are pretty basic, (hence bringing out soundtrack pro). In FCP you apply effects to the clips not to the track like you would in a DAW, same with the audio mixer every time you reach a new clip the audio mixer resets to 0 for the next clip. So to apply a limiter to all the clips in your audio track you'd have to nest you clips first. To cut a long story short it's all a bit of a ball ache  In the wasted time spent doing a pretty average mix in FCP you mate might as well learn how to use soundtrack.

btw..What sort of stuff is he making, if the limiter is only needed to boost volume something must be wrong at the source.
