Just came back from the Musik Messe and the Nocturn has not detented encoders. The guy on the booth said they should finally be available in about two weeks. I'm waiting...attackmode wrote: ....
Also the upcoming Novation Nocturn has endless encoders but I'm not sure if they're detented (I hope not).

Indeed, that's one downside of the BCR2000, it takes more than one turn to get the full range of control (at least it did when owned one, maybe this has been fixed). I think that's only the case if you have the encoders in relative mode. In absolute mode you're done in one turn. Also the upcoming N...

The easies way to do this is to have different tracks for each scene (clips of scene 1 on tracks 1-4, clips of scene 2 on 5-8, scene 3 can then re-use tracks 1-4). Send the output of all tracks of the first scene to return track A and all outputs of the second scene to return track B. Now you can us...

Well the BCR2000/BCF2000 have endless encoders and they are both pretty solid. But maybe you should have an eye on the upcoming Novation Nocturne. It has endless encoder and other neat features and it will retail around 100 bucks. There was also some big endless knob thing from logitech the could be...

An encoder that sends fixed values can't be used in relative mode. To use this mode the controller must send a fixed value when moved clockwise and another fixed value when moved anti-clockwise. So my answer is: not possible. Either use an endless encoder or two buttons to go up and down. I always h...

Smooth song transitions in a live set (feat. AngstroLooper)
I was looking for a way to smoothly switch between songs while playing a live set. One possible solution would obviously involve having both songs playing at the same time (requiring the double number of tracks and CPU utilization), the other would be to have some instant loop of what is currently b...

Preset Change via MIDI
Don't know if this applies to AU plugins but most VST plugins have a number of assignable preset slots which are mostly filled with factory defaults but can be freely loaded with any VST program file. Currently the active preset can be selected using mouse or keyboard. http://img142.imageshack.us/im...

My perception is that a DJ is someone who mainly plays and mixes songs produced by other folks, while a live act is someone who presents his own music 'live' to an audience. How much the live artist actually does it totally up to him, as long as the result fucking blows me away. I'm always happy to ...

Loading the set on Friday crashed Live with the same error message I got in the office. So obviously this whole thing has nothing to do with the change in my hardware configuration (which would have really surprised me). Seems like the set got corrupted when I did the last save as self contained. Ba...

Windows and background processes alone consume around 250 MB of my RAM (I disabled all the fancy stuff). Even if all the 3 GB of real physical memory were occupied there is still the virtual memory (I've set this to max. 8 GB yesterday). Like I wrote the only thing that changed compared to my home s...
