For me, I'll be waiting for a G5, since the cost will be the same. All the cool new music apps are being developed under OS X anyway, and if you want FireWire for hard disks and audio adapters or built-in wireless, then Apple hardware does it the best. Some things are worth waiting for. Yeah, that ...

If latency is your only complaint you have about your Thinkpad... Well... since I do a lot of studio work in Logic I'm hoping to get a G5 powerbook whenever they will become available (affordable ;-) That's why I'm a bit reluctant to put money into a PC laptop right now. Of course I would love to s...

Thanks all of you for great feedback to my question! Fact is I'm using both Mac and Pc and have been doing for a while. I ordered the dual 2GHz G5 right away to replace my studio workhorse Pentium 4 desktop, but it's not an option to take a desktop out for gigs. I'm writing this on a IBM ThinkPad A2...

YES! I want the commands "save envelope" and "open envelope" and they should be reachable over midi. I also want to reach "those handy buttons under the original tempo field in the warp section" over midi. I'm doing this (toggling between Half Speed and Full Speed) with...

PB: sorry to say but your idea with splitting the signal will cause heinous sounds that are flangy and phasey... But I don't have to tick the "Monitor through Live" in the preferances! but then how will you hear your loops, Live effects, etc.---to hear the master out, yous gots to monitor...

If I should select the "Monitor through Live" in the preferances, yes - but I don't have to do that! ;-)

Laptop recommendations?

Hi guys, I would certainly love to play Live live with a G5 powerbook , but since none are around yet and I don't know if they will be affordable I'm looking into other alternatives. Any suggestions? I spotted a good price for this Dell : IntelR PentiumR 4 cpu 2,40GHz 512 MB RAM 14,1" TFT XGA L...

If you already have a beat going the methods above are fine. But if you intend to start a session by recording a guitar loop, it's a little more complicated. But with a midi foot controller you can fix this scenario as well. Just assign a stepping pedal to Live's "tap tempo" function. Then...

I used to do that before, but now I'm tired of dragging heavy gear around. I have a rack with some other hardware execpt for the mixer, picture at http://www.looproom.com/livelooping.php. It's just too heavy. Now I want to do gigs with only a laptop and instrument (recording clips on the fly into Li...

I use a behringer fcb1010 midi foot controller set up to trigger recording of clips in Live. ////// Ryan Hey - that's the pedal I'm using too. I have also patched the two expression pedals to control track voume and different looping VST plug-ins like the PSP42. I'm playing tenor sax and guitar and...

Thank you for the straight forward information, Gerhard. For my personal use of Live the available CPU on a P3 700 MHz is fully sufficient. I want to use it live for live looping my tenor saxophone on stage and don't use that many tracks for this. I sure miss the ability to overdub into a clip with ...

I'm quite new to Live and I'm checking it out very seriously to eventually use it for live looping on stage (not what the software was designed for, but quite possible by some workaraounds). I was amazed to hear about the absent altivec optimization but if that is the way it is we have to live with ...
