이승규 / Yi Seunggyu

이승규(YI SEUNGGYU)는 Ableton Certified Trainer이자 미디어 아티스트, 연구자, 시스템 디자이너​로서, 

Ableton Live를 기반으로 한 전자음악 제작, 사운드 디자인, 알고리즘 작곡, 실시간 신호처리, 라이브 퍼포먼스 시스템을 연구하고 교육하고 있습니다. 

서울예술대학교와 영국 런던 Garnish Music Production School에서 Sound Design & Synthesis 과정을 수료했습니다. 그 후 일본 큐슈대학에서 예술공학 석사·박사학위를 취득했습니다. 

Ableton Certified Trainer로서 알고리즘 작곡, 전자음향 신호처리, 인터페이스 설계, 실시간 공연 시스템 교육을 병행하고 있습니다. 

그의 작업은 아날로그 모듈러 신시사이저, DSP, Max/MSP, Ableton Live, MIDI/CV, 센서 및 다양한 실시간 입력 제어 장치를 통합하여, 

극단적 노이즈와 무작위성, 회로 기반 리듬, 비선형적 음향 변화와 추상적 시각 알고리즘이 상호작용하는 다층적 오디오비주얼 시스템을 구축하는 데 기반하고 있습니다. 

특히 Ableton Live를 단순한 음악 제작 소프트웨어가 아니라 작곡, 신호처리, 인터페이스, 외부 하드웨어를 통합하는 실시간 음악 시스템​으로 활용하며, 

입력–분석–변조–처리–출력으로 이어지는 신호 흐름 전체를 하나의 제작 및 연주 환경으로 설계하고 있습니다.

이러한 시스템에서는 연산 오류, 피드백, 신호 불안정성, 감각적 충돌을 제거해야 할 결함이 아니라 적극적인 예술적 재료로 다루며, 

청각과 시각의 안정된 질서가 흔들리는 순간을 실시간 시청각 형식으로 탐구하고 있습니다. 

아티스트이자 연구자로서는 노이즈와 글리치, 전자음향 신호처리, 즉흥연주, 인터페이스 설계, 실시간 오디오비주얼 시스템을 중심으로 연구와 창작 활동을 이어가고 있습니다.

또한 이러한 실천을 바탕으로 전자음악 제작, 사운드 디자인, 라이브 퍼포먼스 시스템 설계, 실시간 파라미터 제어, 창의적인 신호 라우팅 등을 교육하고 있습니다. 

서울, 도쿄, 뉴욕, 베를린, 코펜하겐, 샌프란시스코, 상하이 등 국내외 여러 도시에서 전시와 공연을 진행해왔으며, 

음악 제작 기술과 실시간 미디어 시스템을 예술적 창작 및 라이브 퍼포먼스로 확장하는 새로운 실천 가능성을 지속적으로 탐구하고 있습니다.

YI SEUNGGYU is an Ableton Certified Trainer, media artist, researcher, and system designer.
His research and teaching focus on electronic music production, sound design, algorithmic composition, real-time signal processing, and live performance systems based on Ableton Live.
He studied at Seoul Institute of the Arts and completed the Sound Design & Synthesis program at Garnish Music Production School in London, UK. He later earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in Design from Kyushu University, Japan.
As an Ableton Certified Trainer, he teaches algorithmic composition, electroacoustic signal processing, interface design, and real-time performance systems.

His artistic practice is based on the integration of analog modular synthesizers, DSP, Max/MSP, Ableton Live, MIDI/CV, sensors, and various real-time input and control devices. Through these technologies, he constructs multilayered audiovisual systems in which extreme noise, randomness, circuit-based rhythms, nonlinear sonic transformations, and abstract visual algorithms interact in real time.

In particular, he approaches Ableton Live not simply as music production software, but as a real-time musical system that integrates composition, signal processing, interfaces, and external hardware. He designs the entire signal flow—from input and analysis to modulation, processing, and output—as a unified environment for both production and performance.

Within these systems, computational errors, feedback, signal instability, and perceptual conflicts are treated not as defects to be eliminated, but as active artistic materials. His work explores moments in which established auditory and visual orders become destabilized, transforming these conditions into real-time audiovisual forms.

As an artist and researcher, his practice centers on noise and glitch, electroacoustic signal processing, improvisation, interface design, and real-time audiovisual systems. Drawing on this practice, he also teaches electronic music production, sound design, live performance system design, real-time parameter control, and creative signal routing.

He has presented exhibitions and performances in cities including Seoul, Tokyo, New York, Berlin, Copenhagen, San Francisco, and Shanghai. Through his artistic, research, and educational activities, he continues to explore new possibilities for extending music production technologies and real-time media systems into artistic creation and live performance.
