sharing tunes - myspace or what?

Post by Tone Deft » Sat May 16, 2009 8:17 pm

it's time I finished some songs and posted something, anything. what should I use? I'm not concerned about copyrights and stuff, I only do this stuff for fun.

Anything but myspace. That is the worst fucking website in the world. I'd rather chew my own nuts off than go to somebody's myspace page.

the above mentioned sites are marketing and social media sites mainly. most of these sites will compress your music files. if you want to stream your stuff as a wav/ogg/midifile (not greater than 100mb per file) and want 5GB!!! free online storage and unlimited bandwidth i find this free service amazing http://www.4shared.com/share_music.jsp. it´s not that usual social networking site. users also can download your tracks.

you can of course create an account at the above social networking sites and link to the site hosting your high quality audio files. best of both worlds.

I really like soundcloud, but be aware that you have a 5 track per month upload limit with the free accounts (doesn't affect me as I struggle to finish 5 tracks a year :) ). Virb is nice too.

Maybe it has advantages compared to others with file limits or whatever, but I find the reverbnation player really irritating. And, if I remember correctly, it has some max song length which mean some tracks just stop abruptly - at least I think that was reverbnation... ikke saa godt...

Quality on myspace sucks, but it's a necessary evil.
Soundcloud is great for sharing high quality mp3, wav, and aif files with others privately or publicly.

I've focused most of my attention on these two sites.

Choose myspace because I know Sparkles will want to hear your tunes and I will then get the first-time-ever privilege of witnessing someone chew their own nuts off. So, please, Myspace it, Tone.

my god that's a compelling argument.

I'll post something in a few hours. I'm long overdue for posting tunes, I owe you guys that much, and a 'studio' pic. then the ridicule can begin!!
