I'm half your age (and I never saw the 60's, or 70's, and really the only thing I did during the 80's was soil diapers and eat dirt and say silly things that my parents can now use to embarrass me in front of my friends) and I can already feel I'm getting stupider each day... yet another reason never to leave university!Sphinx wrote:I meant to say it's difficult for me, as a guy moving into his mid-50s age-wise (and especially having "survived" the 60s/70s & 80s!)
Seriously though, best of luck with your efforts. Learning new things is what keeps us human.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

Re: Who are you, really?
I have been playing guitar and other traditional instruments since I was 15 (22 years). I got into digital music making in order to yield better recording results in 98. I got into electronic music and dj-ing in 2003 after attending burning man for the first time. I started with Ableton at the release of version 5 ostensibly to dj, but it has since become my primary avenue for music creation. I've used a variety of different software to dj, but am currently using Traktor Pro. I mainly played out in the Arizona scene over the last few years (anyone see the raver bus? Ever?)
In the intervening years, I worked my way up to a "good" corporate IT job. Last summer, I went to Peru to dj at a conference there; my most interesting gig ever btw (http://www.amazonconvergence.com/). After doing 3 ayahuasca ceremonies there in the Amazon, I came away with the clear understanding that I have been wasting precious time, so I sold almost everything and am currently living in an RV whilst traveling around the states with my girlfriend.
I've had more time to produce some stuff, so that's on http://www.semuta.com, and hopefully will be able to continue traveling for another year before the cash runs out. If any of you hear what I've done and know of a place where I can play or want to collaborate I'll be in your area eventually.
Best wishes to all of you, no matter where you've been.

Re: Who are you, really?
I'm at 125 percent zoom in Live 8. By day I make signs and propaganda for a casino. I am a chronic returner. I return approximately 75 percent music gear I buy, usually because I find something wrong with it. I also have a hard time finishing a song. Live makes all my unfinished songs more fun, since I can play them in Session view.

You could do the hoovering and we could talk about tapirs all day (best animal - ever!). I'd like that.

Re: Who are you, really?
I am live with Internet. I spend daily 12-15 with Internet, my live is Internet. My littl son crazy for Live 8.jcwillia wrote:I was on my walk from the train to my office today (I work in downtown Chicago) when it occurred to me that I am very strange bird. I write (mostly bad) electronic music and yet I am a married father of two (soon to be three) kids in a nice suburb who works as a Finance manager at a Fortune 500 company.
And oh yeah, I attend a relatively progressive Christian Church that actually supports all this craziness that we do with Live. In fact, were it not for my church, I would probably never heard of Ableton Live.
So I got to thinking - what do the rest of the forum guys do with their "real" lives?
Please, indulge me.

Re: Who are you, really?
I'm a 26-year-old operations secretary for an optical retailer; I don't know if I enjoy my job. I am also a drum tutor on weekends, and play drums in two bands. I am engaged to a lovely northern lass, and have a baby on the way.
By night, I am musically conflicted and write marginally entertaining ambient electronica on the computer, although I am steering away from computer-based production in favour of a hardware-based studio (MPC!). One day, I will do a live gig...

Re: Who are you, really?
I am a 33 year old architect living in Paris, from the San Francisco Bay Area originally. Currently contemplating a move to Hanoi, Vietnam for a job offer there.
I have been a music lover forever, and began DJing in high school. After many years with the Technics doing warehouse parties in SF, I picked up Live 2, and I am now a bedroom DJ and producer.

I use to make beats and dj small parties when I was in High School, and I always loved it. Now it's just a hobby. Something to keep me out of trouble.
