Problem with Live's Midi Clock is that its performance totally depends on the load of Live's Midi (and likely also audio) engine as a whole. When you're running some load on Live's Midi engine it cannot only lead to audio glitches and slowdown, but also to Midi Clock drop-outs. So the more Midi you use the less reliable Live's Clock becomes which is kind of the opposite of what you want when using Clock Syncing. In general you want a Midi Clock to keep things together even in dangerous situations instead of having it fall apart as soon as your set gets loaded.

I have found live 702 to be stable with midi clock, but i will have a look at 703 to check for problems... cos i'm going to need this to work for an upcoming project.

FYI, i find its always a good idea to use one midi port for midi clock only, and other ports for note and CC data. I've also found the midisport 2x2 to be very reliable with MIDI, and IMO, the only decent and reliable product by m-audio!

Had plenty of problems trying to get the Novation Remote SL to work with midi clock... but that's for another topic.

Meanwhile, will do some tests to check how it works on my system (os 10.4.11)

Well, it appears that this behavior has made in into Live 7.0.3, so instead of a -4ms clock to keep the MD in sync I now need a -24ms clock, even with direct monitoring through my interface.

As much as I like Live, I really do want to set it on fire sometimes. It doesn't even handle software monitoring latency right. Logic delays output somewhat to allow for effects on software monitoring, but records the audio in the right place, without the added delay. Live's not this clever.

Yeah. Sad to see this regression, particularly when it looked like version 7 was going to finally be the version that didn't have broken external midi timing.

Well, i'm to test very thoroughly but my computer was super infected with a virus that was messing up some of my programs. Now that my laptop is clean, the tempo drift is gone... i think... i actually fell asleep while testing  I need to seriously test this again.

Something odd i did noticed while doing my short test is that while Live's tempo said 98bpm, the tempos on the Machinedrum and Monomachine read something like 20bpm higher!!!!! Maybe it shouldn't matter because everyting now seems to be in sync, but when I was having problems before i cleaned the computer from the virus, the Live tempo was 98bpm and the MD MnM tempos fluctuated around that same tempo too...

The BPM readoout on the MD should say "EXT" if it's synced to an external source.

I know, but when you do press the tempo button you can see the tempo it's supposedly running on...

Oh. I haven't tried that. Weird that it's so far off what Live thinks the tempo is.

Still having this issue with 7.03, this time with an EMX-1. Adjusting the offset does not appear to be doing anything in Live.

Yeah. I haven't had any luck with this either. All this stuff just works beautifully in Logic 8, by the way, without any dicking around with offsets.

could this be an osx 10.5 issue, cos i have been testing this and dont seem to be getting these problems with live 703.... <?>

BTW, i'm still on 10.4.11

tested with live 703 sending and receiving midi clock via midisport 2x2.

2x2 > Korg ER-1 > Nord G2

and other way round with ER-1 as master...

I am running Live 7.0.5 on a MBP with an Ultralite and had my MD running in sync nicely without any compensation changes.....

......for a bit....

Then it started to drift, a lot

Then it wouldn't fire or sync on time, stutter behind and outa sync

Why does it work sometimes and not others??

This has been my dream set up and it's not consistent .

Help
