Yes, although the difference will be more or less noticeable depending on the material. To my ears, mixes with lots going on sound more transparent in Live 7.

Timely topic for me!
I've just upgraded to Live7 from Live5LE and mainly do singersongwriter recording. I'm still very much a novice with Live but would appreciate anyones comments on the clarity and quality of Live7's audio with a more 'traditional' setup.
Also, can anyone recommend a good book that might address this style of recording?
Thanks,

What changes are we talking about here? It's a digital DAW. Unless they've changed something dramatic like the internal mix bit rate/sample rate or changed the way certain plugins work, it should sound the same regardless of which version it is... right?

Live 7 has 64-bit internal mixing, and hi-quality modes on several plugins.

It'll make things sound as much better as putting your CDs in the freezer will conserve the bits better. It's all about believing!

raw sewage.

I'm working at 24bit 88.hz , the difference is immediately apparent.

"modern recording techniques" Is one of the textbooks the school i used to teach ot used and it's pretty good. Really you can learn just by playing and asking more experienced folks questions. Another good idea, find a local recording studio and see if the engineer would mentor you for cash. You might find them very welcoming, it's tough times out there right now. And sitting in on a tracking session with a good engineer is more helpful than any amount of reading.

Thank goodness for the new audio engine. That slight distortion/muddiness at around -130 db and below really bothered me in Live 6. I just couldn't get clear mixes. Now I can.

Another reason you're old tracks may sound better in Live 7 may also be that someone snuck into your house and changed all you eq, saturators and operator patches to hi-q mode, and maybe even changed some of your compressors to the new algorithm.

It very well could be the new audio engine. I'm just sayin', someone might have snuck into your house. Just sayin'.

Hi leisuremuffin,
thanks for your suggestion and I'll follow that book up.
I should add I've been a Cubase years for many years but have am really looking for a simpler workflow that is more intuitive to use. Live7 seems to offer that. and theres some very interesting footage of Pete Townshend on YoutTube using Live to trigger drum loops he can play along to!

Someone also changed the skin to Dawn, which helped warm my mixes up quite a bit (pun intended).
