it does make the idea of buying a mac for music more lucrative.. that's definitely true.
no prevailing genre of music:

...and i don t really like this kind of marketing. What i do like is the idea, that i can blame it one ONE company, if my DAW doesn t run well...

Even though I am PO'd that I get no love in terms of an upgrade from LP7 academic forward, I am even considering the strength in having both, as I could use the dongles on my collaborators PB and PM G5 while running the serial numbers to the new one on my MB and PM G5. The price is so good. 8O

yes, they can monopolise the musical market by this simple strategy "make it cheap"
and good of course, but there are a lot of good DAWs

Really fantastic value for $500.

I hope Ableton are taking notes, and decide to focus on really improving Live, its features, and what comes with it, rather than just knocking down the price slightly.

No more XS key?

What are the chances that an upgrade will work on an educational version? I know there is not meant to be an upgrade path, but since they have moved to an entirely new system - it may just work?

Nope. Called them today. We are both screwed.

I waited for a while for the video/image to load, and nothing happened, so I figured this must be the new "streamlined" Mainstage:

OMG...

That is so wrong-

The music for the Mainstage Demo is totally derivative of that standard Live demo. It's like the standard live demo music on ludes.

And the 3D interface is extraordinarily telling of where the pursuit of professionalism in audio software apple is taking them. I mean it's fucking cute but please leave web 2.0 out of my bloody audio environment!

3d is is so out of date.

I hear that Live 7 is all in 4d
the box it arrives in is a tesseract

and, even better, Live 8 is in 5d. All the infinity of outcomes of the musical decisions you make are there already before you even think about buying it. you simply collapse the state vector for the outcome you want. Or you can achieve mystical enlightenment and contemplate the begingless endless trance you nearly made.

see, now how advanced does Logic 8 seem?
not so attractive now is it!

Logic 8 has some new cool features like multitake recording... but for playing instruments live, is it not better to use Live 6? has logic the ability to sweak everything you want via midi? with that 3d interface, will it be more resource consuming? what are the pros/contras of each of them?

I'm glad I got outbid on eBay for a used copy of Logic 7.2 last week. I've been watching eBay for awhile and copies are selling for around $600USD used... Now $500 for Logic Pro 8 plus all the new features! I feel like it is Christmas already!

I got REALLY lucky. Nebulae sold me Logic 7.23 for $250, and with the $200 upgrade still cheaper than the new version. Otherwise I doubt I'd even care to be honest. Live is a wicked app, don't want anyone to think I believe otherwise. I'll play with L8 cause I'm curious, but my CD is still being done entirely in Live 6.

I just hope that the L8 price finall makes the Abes realize that their instruments are way over-priced, something many people have been saying for awhile.
