the only 'problem' is that it won't find the Filterbank.fxb by default, so you always have to load it yourself which is a bit annoying, but for the rest: it's free and sounds fantastic!

Shame it's only available for VSt - I need AU! :-)

On a related note, how do you people rate the Quad Frohmage filter?

I think it's a wonderful and very versatile plug-in filterbank (with four different filters, routing options, preset morphing, delay...)

Looking forward to hearing what you think, especially compared with hardware filters....

not true. If you go to open the presets and "see" where Live is "looking" for the file, you can then copy it into that folder, and Live will see it automatically.

I don't understand. most of my VST's can see the presets, but with filterbank this is not the case. what am I doing wrong exactly?

I put the dll and the fxb in the same folder by the way.

my bad, rappie. I just did a little more experimentation, and it seems that even if I have the presets in the folder where Live "looks" for them (for me its Ableton>3.0.2>Content folder), I still have to click the open square to get the browser open so I can choose the filterbank.fxb--seems silly that it can't recognize it every time. No workarounds yet. I heard on the FL forums that the developer kind-of stopped at a certain point when it was decided that it wasn't going to go to market, so I think that might explain why its a cpu hogging, non-skinned/interfaced, no preset-remembering vst effect. But these shortcomings aside, it really does kick, and some of the presets are just outstanding for everything from snares to pads. I will definitely get some serious milage out or it live with Live.

Can't help it, but am not too impressed by this one at all ... doesn't beat Crazy Yvan in my eyes ...

I like it a lot because of its tempo-synced effects that can turn a simple snare part into something else, or to make a pad have a cool choppy rhythmic effect. I just tried Crazy Ivan, and its crazy all right, but it seems like a totally different monster, and doesn't seem to tempo-sync (or have tons of useable presets--I know, I'm lazy).

works good to me. I have been playing with it for a few days. I really like it. I dont think I would run it in a live PA, as it is a bit "hungry", but I have used it to tweak some sounds and then render it for later editing, Very fun. My only complaint is the lack of a GUI, but neither does supertrigger, and I love that vst as well. thanks M8

"Hungry" is right, it's a beast! Very cool effect, but not something I'd want to use in real-time, it's just too greedy. Thanks for pointing it out though Ryan, it's still well worth having.

yeah, its a bit of a hungry hungry hippo. However, I've had nothing but fun times with one or two instances of filterbank vst in Live. I've been using it live in Live for a few weeks now. Each instance of it seems to add about 8% to my cpu meter (P4 2.4, gig RAM, xp pc).
