Help me decide on some budget monitors

Post by gio50 » Fri Sep 07, 2007 1:18 am

I'm looking to get my first pair of nearfield monitors... and at the moment I'm in a large untreated bedroom.

At first I was going to splurge on some genelecs or dynaudios but considering I know nothing about mixing, these are my first, and I don't know where I'll be in a year.. it seems wiser to get a budget pair for now.

Here is what I've got down on paper:

KRK RP6 (the most costly of these choices)
Event TR6 (very mixed reviews)
Behringer Truth 2031a (seem great but apparently break often)

Not sure if 8" or 6" is best considering the room is large. Just looking for something that will make my stuff translate well.

Opinions please?

If your room is big def. get 8" inch monitors. You really can't go wrong with either KRK or Event. Go to a store with a couple cds that are produced/mixed in such a way that you are aspiring for and listen to both brands of monitors. Witch ever one brings less ear fatigue is the one for you. After you get your monitors, compare your mixes on as many systems as you can(remember to use the cds you brought to the store with you for reference).

if you dont know where you will be, and want decent "budget" monitors check out Samson Resolv 50a. its on special at samash.com for $150 for the pair(b-stock)!
i have them, and they are clean and plenty good quality for the money.

Ok, KRK seem to be the way to go. They don't appear to have Samsons where I live.

Which would be best:

2x Rokit RP8

Rokit RP6s+ RP10 sub

Without the sub is cheaper so I'm leaning toward just the 2 RP8s, they should be plenty bass wise right? I just thought it might more balanced if I was to go for the smaller 6" and a sub.

Will try and listen to these in store soon
