(OT) Any Sega Genesis / Sonic the Hedgehog fans?

Post by aqua_tek » Thu May 24, 2007 12:50 am

I'm talking about the oldies. 1990's 2-D style. Sonic 1, 2, 3, & Knuckles, etc.

No pretty 3-D graphics. Just straight up 2-D fun, and engaging gameplay.

Not to mention the soundtracks were awesome. :P

I totally miss playing those games. Would pick em over any next-gen first person shooter any day.

Are there any Genesis emulators for Mac? :( I need a Sonic fix

Seriously, i think sega is what helped fuel my lust for all things electronic in music. When i was like 6 I used to make mixtapes off the BGM player in the options menu. This included such sega classics as sonic the hedgehog 1/2/3 & spinball/ Arrow Flash/ Contra: Hardcorps.

Did u ever hear the soundtrak 2 that game? Seriously Contra: Hardcorps is the proverbial goldmine for sid-style lofi sounds.

P.s. Sonic Spinball's music was really bueno as well. I remember I had an actual CD of the soundtrak I used 2 rock out 2. Kinda wish i still had a copy of it.

No doubt.

The music in those games was a huge part of the experience for me. And its taken me a while to realize it, but it has been quite influential in my music as well.

Anyways, I found this little gem of a site the other day. The soundtracks to virtually any game you can imagine 8O

Got me reminiscing about some simpler times in life :(

Top stuff. I picked up Sega Genesis Classics Collection or whatever its called for the PSP a couple of months ago. Spent many a fun hour shredding Sonic 1 and 2 on that...

Sorry, can't beat Thunder Force. Well, the music. Sonic has some GREAT songs, but Technosoft took FM to a whole new level. They took it to 11.

Post by draff » Fri May 25, 2007 1:59 am

How funny that you post this. I just happened to get a hankerin' for Shining Force I & II the other day. I found a perfect Mac Emulator called Genesis Plus. Google "Genesis Plus, Mac" and you will find it.

Enjoy...

It's been forver since I posted anything here, and this is the one that pulls me back. What a wierd world we live in...

Hey Draff, (or anyone!)
I love the genisis, or "megadrive" as it was called over here in Ireland....
In fact I have a couple still, and lots of lovely games which I pull out from the attic occasionally!
Would love to get an emulator...
Downloaded that emulator you talked about, but cant get it to work.
I seem to have downloaded the programe, and I can open it up, but cant get it to play any games... do I need to download games seperatly, cos I cant see any place to download em.????
Thanks peoples.

I just turned 30 and I haven't had as much fun with games in over 15 years as I have since I purchased a nintendo ds lite.

I actually had the first version of the nintendo ds but as soon as I played a lite version my friend had I immediately had to sell the old one. So much nicer...

Anyways, yes, ds pretty much rules. Mega Man, Mario, Sonic, Castlevania they are all there...

ehhhh, scratch that link, it's tht phapsody bullshit. Unless you have rhapsody, in which case enjoy the hilarious bill hicks "clam lappers and sonic the hedgehog" bit.
