white noise effect in Minimal

Post by Pantytec » Sun Apr 15, 2007 12:58 am

I'm starting to hear more and more of this effect. And i'm not sure how they are doing it. I can do it with my Vermona drumrack, but not in Ableton.
Maybe they are doing it with Battery?

It's just a dowse of white noise in a snare or high hat, and it it builds and increases before a breakdown. shhhhhhh sshhhh shhhHHHHH SHSHHHHH!
And stops. And then continues on with a nother 8 bars, and then again. It's not a new effect I know, but it's sick enough to grab my attention. Like I said, it's in mostly highhats.

What did I miss?

You need a synth with noise generator.

With reason:

Add a subtractor synth
Low pass and open the cut off
Active the noise and put the LEVEL of them at 100%
Now put the knob NOISE at 75%.

To make Sh sh sh sh sh sh sh.... Add a delay machine.

(Sorry my english)

bingo-

use pure white noise with a sharp attack, then jack with the decay and volume. if you want a more conventional sound, layer the white noise (smoothly) with a high hat sound, then adjust the decay on the white noise only.
..... . . . . . . . . .

Microtonic is fantastic for those sounds. Automating the decay and noise on some of the hi hat type sounds works really well.
3ghz Pentium 4 (Prescott), XP Sp2, 1gig Ram, Dual Monitor with Matrox Millenium, MOTU Traveler, Event EZ8 Adat card. Also IBM THinkpad t40 1.6 1 gig ram
