Did we ever get a confirmation that repitch mode is turning the warping algorithms off? (not "the same as" ... but literally turning them off)

.
Yes exactly is re-pitch mode emulating the warp being turned off but its still on wtf,
I wish they would just give us the option of turning it off completely and then we could do away with this discussion.

Repitch mode is supposed to "prove" that warp is not activated (because you would hear it). But if the tempo doesn't change, warp can still have an effect on the audio quality without necessarily being very obvious (flame war ensues....). Live is a gnats bawhair away from being a player in the big DAW league and the disable warp / loop without having to warp feature in addition to [insert your favourite missing feature here] seems to be quite easy to implement.

Think what you will and death to the warp :P
I also disagree with this and - although its highly dependent on the source material - warping even at original tempo can definitely alter the sound.

The algorithm is still operating on the sample even at original tempo.

The problem is that - in aggregate - when you have many samples running simulataneously in arrange grid - all of them warped, at original tempo - all these slight alterations in the source material add up.

I totally believe this is the main reason for the controversy about Live's audio quality in comparison with the competitors. The warping is on on these clips and people forget about this factor when they are judging the quality

.

Well, i've given you my explination and proof, where's yours?

at orig tempo warp isn't doing anthing to the sound.

however: this is not true of complex mode for some reason.

and alos, remember that lives master bpm only goes to 100ths. therer could be a variation in tempo if you've imported your file from elsewhere.

if you record it into live, and don't change the tempo, warping is irrelavent.

prove me wrong.

hmmmm, interestingly enough, doing a quick test with my method posted earlier, beats, tones and textures all cancel out and are therefore identical waves.

however, *repitch* and complex both have some slight variance. Interesting!

anyway, i've been leaving mine set to beats and have never noticed a difference when the tempo has not been changed from orig. because there isn't one.

edit, wrong about repitch, user error.

REally? Repitch had a slight difference, now that is interesting, because that would change my whole workflow, and I really haven't noticed anything up til now.

the phase invert experiment is easy and reliable.

As I recall, the official word is

beats - safe
re-pitch - safe, except possibility of 1 or 2 sample difference in length of clip
texture, tones - usually not safe
complex - never ever ever never ever safe

Suppose you had a huge set you made long ago of mashup tunes, all done in complex, is there a shortcut to change the warp mode?
