Live 3 and endless rotary encoders

Post by Gast » Mon Dec 01, 2003 9:00 pm

Hello!

I want to assign the endless rotary encoders of my Novation Remote 25 to a knob in Live 3 (Demo version). Only the "absolute" assignment works, but i want a "jumpless" relative assignment.

Has anybody a hint??

Thx, Christoph

Gast

Erm, sorry Christoph,

I don't understand. What do you mean by >>"jumpless" relative assignment<<?

Roddi
please state the following information with *every* problem you have:
1. Exact version of Live
2. System: Processor, RAM
3. Operating System
4. Audio hardware
Thank You

I don't want to speak for him, but I guess he probably means settings similar to the Doepfer Pocket Control, where the relative bit assignment from the controller keeps the value from jumping unexpectedly?

When you want to assign a relative controller don't forget to change the attributes in the dropdown box down left ...

Thank's, but i didn't forget! :-)

Is it possible, that the problem lies at the Novation Remote 25?? The value of its rotaray encoders reach from 0 - 127 (-64 - +63)?

I was also playing around with ReMote yesterday, and can't find how to set it to send relative values for rotary encoders, can't find it in the manual either.
So is there any way to get this working in Live?

Few months ago, I've tested a Remote 25 with Live and had the same problem: The endless knobs of the Remote maintain an internal state and send MIDI like absolute controllers.

I've found no way to make them behave like relative controllers. This is so obvious that I thought that a firmware update from Novation would soon come out to fix the problem.

A colleague sent a report to Novation but didn't get an answer.

There's another Problem I had noticed. It's almost impossible to assign the two axes of the touch pad separately, since it always sends both control changes (x first, then y), even if only one these has a different value. This makes it hard to teach Live the second controller in MIDI learn mode.

@Stefan: thank you very much for your answer. Yes, I know, the support of Novation is not the best. Even NOSE (german sales partner of Novation) does not answer at any email requests.

Yesterday i had a phone call with Mr. Bruno Baum from NOSE: He said that there will be a software update for the Remote 25 in Januray 2004, which should make incremental value changes possible.

I think it's a bit absurd that endless rotary encoders send only absolute data.

Thanks, Christoph
