The Solution
We decided to change this behaviour for the current beta. We now send the Note Off first and then the other feedback data. But this change is very tricky, it might break things on places which we do not expect. Therefore we decided to make it optional for this beta. You need to turn it on explicitely if you want it.

You need to create a textfile called Options.txt and place it in the .../Preferences/Ableton/Live606b1 folder. This file needs to contain this line of text:

-_SwitchOrderOfSuccessiveClipStartStop

If there is allready an Options.txt file simply add this line.

PLEASE sombody can tellme where is this on windows????
Where put this file on windows?

* Win: ...\Program Files\Ableton\Live [version]\Preferences\Options.txt
* Win Live 5: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Ableton\Live [version]\Preferences\Options.txt

So, what exactly was the reasoning behind sending out the #1 when there's a loop somewhere in the clip?

The play, launch and stop feedback is ok, but I can't figure this one out...

Also, is there a list with options.txt tricks somewhere?

Still works like that. There are Lemur projects taking advantage of it, the Monodeck II takes advantage of it as far as I know. And I wonder if some of the Faderfoxes use that info for some of it's LEDs?

Don't need to mess about in the options files anymore, though.

yeah
since these posts, we tested some developpement by mdk here:
http://groups.google.fr/group/liveapi
and here:
http://www.assembla.com/wiki/show/live-api

but, as many of us, I'd like more availability inside Live API.
I planned to build my controller too..

API shmapi. ;)

I'd be more than happy with more/better midi feedback options.

- Sending the often requested 'entering loop' message
- Sending an 'exiting loop' message (this is not the same as activate/deactivate loop by the way)
- Sending of the clip status (all mappings?) on start of clip (this also means loop active or not; if you would have mapped a CC control to it)
- Etc

You know, the basic stuff one would be interested in. ;)

I hope I'm thick and someone will tell me it's possible already...

+11111
yes!
all kind of control/feedback would just be .......... necessary!

Ableton Live can be considered (as others daw, pattern machines etc) as a meta-instrument (for my own opinion)
and how can we play a meta instrument with a poor 2D-movements tool (=mouse) ???

I mean, we have to work further now... create our controller, customize the presets of ours already existing controllers etc etc

we need more control and feedback to make our led blinking :lol:

You're thick and this is already possible :lol:

Assign a note to a clip, enable remote output in Live's prefs.
It'll send out the following velocity messages:

0 = Clip stopped
1 = Clip repeat
126 = Clip Triggered
127 = Clip started

bjorn,
you need to assign a note for each clip...
indeed, i discovered this feature very late.. but for my own opinion, it is very unsatisfying to assign a note for each clip before a live performance...
it costs too minutes, i mean

but you're right, it works fine!
