FM7 is being shunned by Ableton!!!

Post by gavisthename » Thu Jan 25, 2007 9:55 am

Has anyone else had trouble with getting Native Instrument's FM7 to work with Ableton?

I've gone into the preferences and located my plugins folder where FM7 is, but Ableton still sticks its nose up at it.

Don't know what to do cos I wanna start recording those bad ass synths!!! :(

Haven't had this exact problem... but Battery 3 used to crash Ableton every time I opened it in a project. I have a tendency to think this is an issue with the NI side of things not Ableton. I have never had any issues that I can remember with any other third party plugs that I have inside Ableton... and the list is somewhat long.

Tell us more about your system and setup. Maybe something obvious will pop up.

It'll be gutting if I can't get FM7 to work with Ableton! Surely Native Instruments is well-known enough to be a bug free plugin! :?

I use FM7 loads with ableton live 5. Not tried it in 6 yet. Never had any stability problems with it.

Thats the question of the hour... if so... then I'd say thats the root of the problem. FM7 is not UB.

Have you tried a re install of FM7? That fixed my issue I was talking about with Battery 3. Try a fresh install of both if you can.

And.... gavisthename... NI is a far cry from bug free my friend. They have great tools, great concepts and great sounding instruments.... but NI products cause more headaches in my studio than all my other products combined. To the point of nearly giving up on my Komplete package a few times. But they keep hooking me with "promising" new products those suckers! I can tell you I owned and was running LIve 6 for a month or so with not a single hickup or crash with no NI products installed at all. I installed Massive and Live crashed within 20 minutes of playing around with it. Since then I've now installed the Komplete 4 UB updates and a crashing MBP is just part of my daily routine now.

If you mean you cant see FM7/8 in the VST manager....

try renaming do a rescan, Live should now see it. You can now rename it again to its original name, do a rescan and Live will gin see it.

At least this worked for me with other plugins.

I love the title of this thread
shunned, its such a cool word
Shunned shunned shunned

The man was Shunned by ableton
The bank manager shunned his wifes client
The man was gunned down and then shunned
FM7 is being shunned by ableton
it has so many great uses
HA HA HA

Battery 3 is fine here. For me it is V-station that crashes Live on startup. But it seems V-Station is OK for a lot of other people. Strange!

Yeah weird thing is... in a fit of anger I un-installed everything NI from my HD! Then I re-installed each plug one by one off the Komplete 4 disc. First Kontakt then Battery and so on. Now Battery works fine! I don't get it! But as long as it works then thats all I care about.

also make sure your "show audio units" box is checked under Live's VST prefs.
