mp3 player with "mic in"
mp3 player with "mic in"
does anyone know of a portable mp3 player with a hard drive that would have a "mic in" input?
i want to replace my mini-disc player.
been searching the web, couldn't find any (even devices with "line in" are not that common).

I've got a creative zen V with a line input. . . records at 160KB MP3, I like it much better than my minidisc recorder. . . files are much easier to work with.

hey the iRiver's H140 is cool and cheap if you can find them. i think they're disc.. but they record a bit on the hot side and dont offer record level. just pick up one of those -10db cut M-Audio thingies and stick btw the input and the mic and you'll be good.
those new MAudio recorders are sweet, as are the Boss ones. but they're still kinda pricey. i think you can find the iRivers for under 200 US ...

They are HDD and I'm sure there's a recording level (I haven't recorded anything since I installed the 'Rockbox' firmware though).gort wrote:hey the iRiver's H140 is cool and cheap if you can find them. i think they're disc.. but they record a bit on the hot side and dont offer record level. just pick up one of those -10db cut M-Audio thingies and stick btw the input and the mic and you'll be good.
thanks all for the input.
i'm really looking for something with a hard drive.
i think the solution with the external device for an ipod could be ok, but i'd rather not deal with itunes, hotsync and all that stuff. i guess iriver or archos are better suited to me.
shame there's nothing like what i'm looking for on the market. i'm sure this would be a good selling point for such a device.

i was wondering about this 2 years ago... stuck with minidisk... it still hasn't changed then!
someone told me that if you run linux on an ipod it can record through the headphone socket. i don't know if that includes a mic pre-amp though, or just does line level.
if it's only line level, that's not too useful as there's a french company that does that, I forget the name.
