mp3 player with "mic in"

Post by peeddrroo » Mon Jan 15, 2007 12:52 pm

does anyone know of a portable mp3 player with a hard drive that would have a "mic in" input?
i want to replace my mini-disc player.
been searching the web, couldn't find any (even devices with "line in" are not that common).

the irivers seem the best option, but i'm not sure about the "line in" issue. i'll try it on my MD player.

What about the MAudio recorder? It records WAV as well as MP3 I believe....

I can recommend iRiver's H140 (they've probably stopped doing them now).
Internal mic / external mic (supplied) / line in, etc.
Variable formats and rates too.
Cheers, David.

Edirol R-09. Not mp3 player first. But good. I think Tascam has a new model as well...

I've got a creative zen V with a line input. . . records at 160KB MP3, I like it much better than my minidisc recorder. . . files are much easier to work with.

hey the iRiver's H140 is cool and cheap if you can find them. i think they're disc.. but they record a bit on the hot side and dont offer record level. just pick up one of those -10db cut M-Audio thingies and stick btw the input and the mic and you'll be good.

those new MAudio recorders are sweet, as are the Boss ones. but they're still kinda pricey. i think you can find the iRivers for under 200 US ...

They are HDD and I'm sure there's a recording level (I haven't recorded anything since I installed the 'Rockbox' firmware though).

thanks all for the input.
i'm really looking for something with a hard drive.
i think the solution with the external device for an ipod could be ok, but i'd rather not deal with itunes, hotsync and all that stuff. i guess iriver or archos are better suited to me.

shame there's nothing like what i'm looking for on the market. i'm sure this would be a good selling point for such a device.

i was wondering about this 2 years ago... stuck with minidisk... it still hasn't changed then!

someone told me that if you run linux on an ipod it can record through the headphone socket. i don't know if that includes a mic pre-amp though, or just does line level.

if it's only line level, that's not too useful as there's a french company that does that, I forget the name.
