Live 3.0 not opening in OSX as standalone

Can anyone figure out why Live 3.0 works fine as a rewire slave with ProTools 6.1 as host, and refuses to open in standalone(or rewire master) mode? I'm running a dual ghz PPC 4 with system 10.2.8 with a Mix+ Digi system. I have a segmented drive and Live works fine in System 9.2.2 but, of course, Rewire with PT 5.3 is not possible.

What happens if you open Live standalone? Which error do you get?

This sounds related to the problem I have of Live freezing when launched as stand alone while initialing the audio inputs and outputs with a Digi 001 attached. (Not using the 001 for Live although it acts the same if you haave that selected i.e freezing the system) G4 800MHz OS 10.2.8.
Usually rebooting fixes it for awhile but not always.
It's a real problem. Does NOT happen on my iMac DV 400 MHz with an Mbox installed OS 10.2.8.
