From a live point of view I am in the process of setting up various VSTs and dummy clips and routining audio tracks through them.
Though I have had 'good sounding' success with VSTs such as Glitch, Beat Reapeat, Delays and Reverb, I am struggling to make the following sound interesting, but not overpowering and 'just for the sake of it'
- Flange
- Phaser
- Grain Delay
- Resonators
Any tips would be welcomed, and also do people tend to use them as sends or inserts. I've found when I use flange on a send it also pushes the levels up quite a lot?

i'd say load a channel up with as many FX as you want and go crazy...
BUT just be sure to slap a compressor at the end of that chain to compress/limit it from getting out of control volume-wise.
the ableton compressor is ok, but i'd recommend something a little more heavy duty like from the waves or psp family of products.
