Lately I have been looking at the possibility to use 'unprogrammed' keyboards like manufactured by PI Engineering - http://www.ymouse.com . Has anyone used this type of alternative controllers with Live!
They also have a version with a programmable joystick . Would it be possible (maybe in future release) to assign in the efx the x/y dot to this joystick (or the joystick of a gamecontroller)?
Also as anyone noticed this behaviour : when assigning a loopsample to a certain keyboard key, I seem only to be able to trigger it , despite it status of [Loop-Trigger-Gate- ...] - also stopping the loop with the same keyboard key isn't possible, only retriggering (eg for stutter efx(Using Live! Full version 1.0 under win2000)

Great that you've spotted this forum.
I just wondered how one of your unprogrammed keyboards would 'behave' with live.
If I'd connect one of these to my pc running Live!, than go in Live! into keymapping mode, will live! pickup the unprogrammed key (eg, top row, far left key) I'm assigning to this or that sample? Or do I have to program they keyboard itself first?
What I'd like to do is take an unprogrammed keyboard and consider the keys layout (eg 8x8 rows/columns) as a physical schematic of my live! 'loops-matrix', allowing me to switch/trigger in a very intuitive way

Each key on the X-keys may be programmed with a keystroke or combination of keystrokes.
If Live! already has keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl+H, etc.) to do what you want to do, it's just a matter of programming those shortcuts into the location you want on the X-keys.
Programming is simple and intuitive:
Slide our Programming switch up
Select a key on the X-keys
Type your programming for that key
Select the key again
Slide the programming switch down, or select another X-key.
If Live! has the ability to map keys you would, as you suggested, program the X-keys first, then assign each key to the function you require in Live!.

The Joystick on our X-keys installs like a standard USB Joystick (AKA MicroSoft Sidewinder) with X, Y, and Z-Axis. Want a inexpensive Midi Controller with 16 fader controles(thats right... 16!) and mute buttons, four efx knobs, fully programable with snapshot options... goto audiomidi.com ... look up the Niche Automation Station ... it sells for $149(its been discontinued) and works like a charm with Live!
