What a coincidence that someone resurrected this thread....I'm a puremagnetik subscription owner, but have neither sampler nor Kontakt. Since puremagnetik makes up most of my sampled sounds at the moment, I was wondering what y'all think is the better sampler for the puremagnetick libraries. I'll probably go for Sampler, unless K2 really is much more worth it.
wow, the old sampler vs. kontakt thread. long-time.
I'm still glad that I have both. For third-party libraries, I prefer kontakt. It's better at handling and finding samples and the patches usually import correctly these days. Also, kontakt's library is quite good.
One thing makes sampler really great to have, and that is the fact that it is part of live, meaning that everyhting is drag and drop. It basically turns ableton into a real sampling instrument, like it the old days when samplers actually recorded. So for creating instruments from things you record, it couldn't be easier than with sampler. Also a clean layout.
But for sampled instruments which are already made, I still prefer kontakt. I tend to download both the kontakt and sampler versions of puremagnetik packs, and I usually like the kontakt versions better, because it uses kontakt's internal effects rather than ableton's, which I think are better.
So in short, I think they are the perfect pair. As I said before (as GRB), I don't make them fight, I make them kiss and make up and play together nice.

The defacto response to Sampler criticisms is that it's so lightweight on CPU loading that you can run WAAAAAY more instances of Sampler in your set than any other VST sampler in the world and use that aspect of it to approach the features other samplers have.
How many instances of sampler do you (most often) use to achieve this ?
and any examples ?
cheers

I don't that's just how the debates go.BinaryB wrote:Tone Deft wrote:

I try to keep my plug ins simple, LEARN what I have, don't get dilluted.

i used to have a yamaha a3000 hardware sampler.condra wrote:how does kontakt "sound better"? have I missed something?
and it had a sound of its own. it's hard to describe, but i guess each sampler has got its own.
and i prefer kontakt's sound.
even playing the same unprocessed sample sounds better in kontakt than in sampler -to my ears.
plus i like the internal effects and the modularity of the modulation.
i think it sounds less "plastic" than sampler.
but then again, it's hard to explain why.
sampler integrates much better into live though. but i still prefer to do it the hard way, ie on kontakt.
plus kontakt's timestretching is awesome.
Does the Kontakt Experience include the full sample collection of Kontakt?
Most of the Kontakt samples will load without difficulty. Some do not (particularly the orchestral samples). Those you have to save before being able to import. It can be a pain to have to do this.
I forget the details, since I gave up on the task. I have both sampler and Kontakt and am committed to learning both. Sampler is easy to learn; Kontakt not so easy but much broader.

If you're going to do that, you might as well just get Kontakt. I considered doing the same thing, but $200 for a sampler with no library that you can ONLY use in one program seems crazy and outlandish when you can get Kontakt + library for $300, and you will be able to use it in any host.tricil wrote:can i just get sampler and then get the kontakt experience DVD and load the kontakt files?
