granted it has stand alone features but it is going to be twice the cost of the padkontrol. If you just need a controller then that seems overkill. If you want the sampling then yeah that looks fresh.rikhyray wrote:See this one almost same weight but..,,

3ghz Pentium 4 (Prescott), XP Sp2, 1gig Ram, Dual Monitor with Matrox Millenium, MOTU Traveler, Event EZ8 Adat card. Also IBM THinkpad t40 1.6 1 gig ram
I will be definitely getting it,. Though I like PadKontrol in the practice it seems I use it only for percussion live. Way better to have it computer independent instrument loaded with samples and then sequencer too! I like the size , weight, the battery idea, making beats on the move. With those Intels- Mac or PC forget mobile composing in the plane or wherever, but making beats thats really hot.

im just curious why you bought the padKontrol in the first place if you already knew you needed a stand alone unit of some kind.rikhyray wrote:I will be definitely getting it,. these things are hot.
I've heard some guy already ordered one for $675...
the only thing that appeals to me tho, is the portability factor - always in the backpack for commuting, and between classes or any other unexpected opportunities to work on your beats. for doing any kind of studio/live stuff I wouldnt be so keen

spreader of butter
The unit wasnt there! Similar size/weight with more features, it is just the practice, you observe what you actually use and how.aliasA wrote:im just curious why you bought the padKontrol in the first place if you already knew you needed a stand alone unit of some kind.rikhyray wrote:I will be definitely getting it,. Umm the pad Kontrol is a controller with 16 pads/xy pad with roll function for 1/4 price.
It was never advertised as a stand alone unit...

As far as the MPC-500, I'm not sure I'm all that interested. Sure the portability is nice, but the MPC-1000 isn't THAT much bigger. Also, and maybe this is just me since I haven't heard anyone else complain about it but I'm not digging the 3 pads in a row look. MPC's have always had 4 pads in a row and that's actually a big deal for programming a 4/4 beat. Please don't suggest turning this on it's side, either. That's just lame...
O.K., so if the MPC-500 hits the streets and is selling for under $700, I may have to really a/b this thing. But for only $200 more I would just save up a week or two and pick up the 1000 that I've had my eye on for the last few months...
