suggestions for new motherboard and chip.

Post by divonic » Thu Jun 29, 2006 9:52 pm

I've been doing some research and wow there are a lot of options.

I am interested in a mother board with-out PCIe and with an AGP slot. (I've heard bad things about PCIe hogging resources for the graphics card and effecting audio cards with mulitipule outs.)

I want SATA connectors for the hard drives.

I want it to support a chip that is above 3.0 Ghz (I don't know what the equivilent is in AMD)

So anyone have any suggestions? I'm abit out of date with all this stuff as I built my last computer in the summer of 2003. It's getting a little long in the tooth for DAW stuff.

then let me know your budget and what you want to do with the rig and I'll recomend my "future proof"* solution what is listen in my sig was built for under $2000 and is a music as well as gaming rig. . .

*Not really but as close as possible based on current technology and what I know about what's coming down the pipe. . .

I want to spend less that $2000 hopefully around $1000. that isn't including the sound card or case (already purchased) if I spend less than $500 on the chip and motherboard I'd be happy

Oh yeah definitally NOT a gaming rig if fact I want the least powerful video card that I can get with Daul outs. this is a Audio work station only. The 2.4 Ghz P4 It will reaplace will do everything else. I'll be running Ableton and a few VSTs Including EMU Protus x.
