I hate dummy clips, beacsue they dictate how I have to do my effect arrangments and track routing.

Something has to be done.

-I'm very used to using VST's that create CC's to control other VST's. That would be nice.

-Another solution would be some Ableton contraption.

-Or go completely the other way and just allow a track to control the envelope of any track it is sending to.

I don't like em either..
dummy clips are a workarround that shouldn't be there..
there's no improvisation or any musical involvement..

there's only one thing that will solve all my needs; accept internal CC routing..

something I've also thought about is taking an even more modular approach with Live's existing devices - it was particularly sampler I was thinking of, but autofilter/auto pan etc would work

basically, what if you could

A) run audio into sampler - then you could have all of it's filters and effects/Pitch OSC section etc - then

B) make the LFOs in sampler/autofilter/whatever control other tracks

maybe along the lines of now how we can choose from large lists of ouputs of a rack (pre fx/post fx/device/2nd rack etc etc) then you choose in that list "autofilter" then another sub menu with the parameter of the autofilter to use

I liked the idea of audio in to the sampler as it would be awesome to have that FM/resynthesis section and the morph filters as seperate plug-ins, an the easiest way would be audio in

but in reality as far as LFO goes I think the most likely scenario is as you suggested with a plug-in like "generator" - because you could have as many as you like, put them in racks, control macros with them etc etc

A. great idea.. Reaktor like instant grain-resynthesis-galore!
B. that would be problematic... the same as my 'generator' request..
the thing is that there's no infrastructure for the routing of solo plugins..

but; with the racks the infrastructure is paved!
that means that LFO's, XY pads, Aux Envelopes, etc. could be implemented in the racks..
There's even enough space available for those features..

see my request http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=

the racks are just screaming for these features..

Some very interesting and well-conceived ideas in this thread. I'll add that I would also like a feature whereby we can draw a fancy GUI prototype like the ones in this thread, and Live will automagically understand give us what we want (just kidding).

Excellent ideas.
The integration of LFO's & envelopes etc. into the racks especially seems almost like a logical progression of where Live is heading.
I've tried allsorts (using nicfits device & midiyoke etc.) to no avail.
This really would be the icing on the cake, or at least the marzipan - beatslicing/rex file support [in sampler maybe] & groove quantisation together with assignable lfo's & envelopes.
Tasty.

like the ideas raised in this thread. live is very close to being a great programming environment for building synths, fx, etc., where you can create devices akin to those in reaktor, albeit at a higher level (which i prefer). the things you all suggest here would take it that much further. so, assuming i have a vote, i vote yes.

I want to bump this thread because I think its a highly desireable and important request. A flexible LFO matrix would be easily as much of a leap forward for Live 7 as it was for Live 6...

Maybe it'll be included, I really really hope so!! It'd open up a world of possibilities for live performance. Multiple LFOs assigned to many parameters adjusted themselves via a rack controller, with one knob you could modulate your entire project from orthodoxy to utter chaos in the most organic way synthesis knows how...LFOs... :)

I agree, I feel bad bumping something so old but the information here is excellent and people have gone to a lot of effort.

don't feel bad for bumping it.
there still no LFOs in Live, so bump!

I was just supprised by this thread showing up; totally forgot I posted it..
