Enough slots in Impulse to have a full drum kit
At least 10 slots are needed in impulse to have any hope of sounding like a real kit (oh yeah, and velocity layers!). 10 sample slots would allow Kick, Snare, Tom1, tom2, floor Tom, HH Closed, HHat open, Ride, Crash and Crash2. The ability to assign the sample slots to any midi note is also kinda necesary for serious use.

Impulse slots
how about just a small + button on the end of impulse to simply 'add' another slot?
this way you could keep adding until you were happy.

And simply allowing the slots to be midi/key mapped like most other buttons in Live would be very helpful too!

That's what I meant, it would be good to be able to map the notes to ANY note (or key if you prefer).hoffman2k wrote:-1 on the midi / key mapping though.
I'd rather set up each slot to respond to a note. That way we can layer sounds a la battery...
Abletons key / midi mapping is too limited at the moment.

lucky for you. just stop pressing our plus one buton when you reach 12.gwydi wrote: I've never needed to use more than that for even the most complex drumbeats.
personally I use many more than 12 drum samples. Real cymbals eat up slots, I could easilly do 24 on just cymbal samples. I have impulse kits that only have two thirds of the hi-hat set on !
spreading the hi-hat samples over two tracks is insane.
my minimum slots would be around 128
indeed,
simply adding more impulses just exposes another of lives faults, that you cant edit or view two pattens at once to get a groove on.
syncopation people, syncopation!
this Impulse issue dogs me every day, because it is so easy to sample a softsynth drum and put it in Impulse I have been using it more and more. But because I use a lot of drum samples I always have around 5 impulses.
example - current track has
Impulse 1 : kick hard, kick medium, kick soft, rim, snare hard, snare medium, brush, brush2
impulse 2 : hat closed, hat pedal, hat half, hat bell, hat open, hat shut, hat hit1, hat hit2
impulse 3: ride edge, ride brush, ride noisy 1, ride noisy 2, ride bell1 , ride swing body1, ride swing body 2.
etc. I wont continue into toms and percusion, but I hope you can see how hard it is to program a continuous flow of drums with multiple impulse patterns.

Definately hear you on being able to add more Impulse slots, the more the better, would be cool to have the same + 1 button for samples in a simpler patch, each extra sample would have its own set of current tweakable parameters along with a keymap parameter, This keymap parameter could be the same for multiple slots ( layer em up ) or adjacent for all slots ( Multi-style )
Then, also would be cool to be able to drop a Live Clip in an Impulse slot, or in a simpler slot for that matter.
