ahaha already started 10 months ago...but you know...learning something is much easier when you are a student and you have plenty of time...

I only started at 27 - I've found I'm going from exploring stuff generally to trying to achieve more specific things, like how I want my stuff to sound, how to record live instruments the way I want them to sound, stuff like that. Yeah, it's something I'd have had more time for when I was a student but I spent all of that learning how to play bass like a god among men, so I consider that time well spent ;)

Well I'll scare you all! I am 49 and just starting! My brother who is fifteen years younger talked me into Ableton and mixing, and so far I think I will like it a lot!

I'm 28 and have been DJ'ing for years. I've just started to remix/cut-up tunes and am just exploring production from scratch. I hope to God it's not too late!!! (The amount of reading I'm doing!)

I'm glad to hear so many older guys are just getting into it, too. Feels odd reading a question written by a 15 year old and desperately waiting for the answer (sometimes from another 15 year old :x )!!!

Turning 38 this year. 12 years ago I had a recording studio that got robbed, setting me way back. Now everything is so much cheaper and better. It is a great time to start.

yeah...it is cool to see older guys jumping on the bandwagon of i.wanna.be.a.producer.so.i.can.get.a.living.and.get.laid....and.paid  ...just joking. ..but sometimes is just hard to be concentrate on making music after 9 hours of work spent in front of a desktop...
but you know playing the artsy fartsy "i am a musician" goes well at this age for girls...when you have lost your physical ex-bradpittesque shape :P  8)

Interesting post!

I think we enter times where "beginner" doesn't necessarely means "young". If before we had to choose a carreer in our teenage years and then stick to it for the rest of our lives, now it got easier than ever to begin again at any time...
Its never too late.

Btw, anyone has concrete examples of musicians, artists, writers or whatever who found their vocation on the late???

Cheers

Turning 40 this year and actively started producing about 6 years ago I think ... it's odd as indeed most people of your reference group are much younger and I feel especially for getting booked for gigs it's an inconveniance as you're missing thàt specific social network ... so the marketing aspect is more difficult.

Musically however I think "we" have ann advantage as our musical bagage is (way) bigger ... eg. we were there in the 80's ;-) , while those 15 year olds .. well ... their parents still had to meet (and mate ;-) ) .

Anyway just do it and ee to what it leads ...

hi
i only really started getting into making tunes about 6 or so years ago, jamming into a 4 track with some mates, and ive only been using a pc for about 2 years.
im 38 and often find myself going through crises of age related confidence when noodling about making tunes and stuff. i always seem to be asking myself 'christ, am i too old to be making noises with toys and crap guitars?' my missus tends to level me out by saying 'no you prick, you arent'. she's 42 as well.

some of my all time favourite music makers are way older than me anyway. i might think that age matters sometimes but i also know that the reality is that it really doesnt.
